Summary

New York City is thrown into chaos by the assaults of the Bone Collector, a serial kidnapper and killer who gives the police a chance to save his victims from death by leaving obscure clues. The cops go to Lincoln Rhyme, an ex-NYPD forensics expert left paralysed after an accident on the job. Rhyme reluctantly postpones his ambitions towards suicide and puts together a forensic investigation team, enlisting as his eyes and ears young police officer Amelia Sachs.

Excellent performance

There are so many characters and the narrator had got a different voice or each and maintained them throughout. Did not particularly like his female voices but it did give them definition for their characters. Story was great.

Cracking listen brilliantly read

This is the first Jefferey Deaver that I have either read or listened to, and it definitely won't be my last. If you like Greg Hurwitz and Michael Connelly, you'll love this. It is very fast paced and it ties all the ends up nicely. I do like the author to tell me the end and not leaving me guessing... after all it's the author's story and I am paying him, so I want a proper end.. even if I don't like it.
Jeff Harding narrates this brilliantly, (one of my favourite narrators and I often pick a story simply because he's the narrator.) I love all the voices, he does, especially the black policewoman who cracks me up... he's brilliant at getting the sassy edge.
This story really keeps you guessing ... and even when you think you know who did what and why.. there was a brilliant twist I didn't see.
I don't want to spoil the plot but I can honestly say it's one of the best listens for a while, it got me through a lot of teadious jobs...
Highly recommended, I didn't want it to finish...

Please give us some language options

Within about 2 1/2 minutes I had to switch it off. I couldn't stand listening to his drooling Texan accent. it's a shame because my brother recommended this book and he said it was great but I just can't listen to it. does anyone know if it is possible to get a refund.

Great story but irritating narration

I have always loved this book but the narrator made every character grating, loud and to my ears just irritating. Rhyme and Amelia were just passable, but the rest were so hard to take.

Loved the suspense and the nerdy details!

Everyone I have told about this book has said: oh yeah, I know that book, it's famous!

So, late to the party as ever, I have just discovered this series and I feel an obsession coming on. This, the first story, is fast-paced which is good because a lot of the content is graphically described. It's great that the book races along so before you know it, you are back in another, less bloody, part of the action. The characters are vivid and the plot, while very convoluted, is really good.

I don't really like gory scenes. There are a lot of these. Somehow, maybe because of the pace and the often clinical nature of the description, it was OK.

There were times when it just got slightly on the wrong side of 'tough New York cop' corny content - but I loved it even more.

Don't listen alone at night if you, like me, are at all of a jumpy disposition, but I do recommend this book if you want fast, action-packed plot-twists with a bucket full of atmosphere.

Great narration, the range of his voice is impressive.

Great book and storyline. Better Voice actor need

What disappointed you about The Bone Collector?

The desire to hand the reader a tissue was constant due to the irritating nasally sound of his voice.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I'm a huge fan of Lincoln Rhyme. I have the entire set of books - my favourite being the Vanished Man.

How could the performance have been better?

Different voice actor.

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Bone Collector?

None

Any additional comments?

I'd purchased this audio book for a long road trip. It was a waste of money. I had to switch it off.

Quadriplegic Ex-Cop in a fight. Fantastic

What a great book with a preposterous yet joyous storyline. This was my first encounter with Lincoln Rhyme and his cantankerous view on life.
I absolutely love this story and the characters were brilliant, Amelia was the perfect stooge to Lincoln and the supporting characters made for a high enjoyable yarn. It is a book where you just suspend any grip on reality you might have and just enjoy. Based on this book I will look forward to the rest of the series. Natation was perfect and built the characters extremely well
Very glad I read this as my first as it seems to set out its stall for future books

Narrator puts on awful voices!

I had to stop listening after 20 mins, the narrator puts on awful voices for each character! Very unnecessary

A great book to listen too

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I found this audio book great to listen too, the narrator read it in a such a way that I became lost in it as though I was there with them. The story line is engrossing and the book is so informative re: forensic science.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character has to be Amelia Sachs, she of course one of the main characters but I liked the way that she coped with being pulled into this completely different job she found herself doing and the way she managed to cope with such difficult circumstances.

What about Jeffrey Harding’s performance did you like?

Some people that I have listened to reading books have been awful but I really enjoyed his style and the way he draws you into the story line.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Not a book to make you laugh, some parts made me want to cry, others were unbelievably tense.

Any additional comments?

The characters in this book are great and I have enjoyed others in this series.
