Captivating

One of those very rare books that’s worth hiding from the world for a day and becoming totally absorbed with the story and characters.

A lot was good, and the some not so good.

The book seems to be set in the modern day but there are constant references to it being set in 2007? Am I missing something? There are lots of events and technology used that simply weren't available back then. It just really left me confused to if I was missing something and I kept rewinding to try and make sense of it. I think it was a huge set of very strange errors?

The writing apart from the era was strong and the characters and setup intriguing. I just don't really think the whole thing hung together quite right. The motivations of the characters seemed all over the shop except for young Chloe who was actually very believable until the last chapters.

The story seems to basically finish with 30 minutes still left to go at which point you just have the same exposition told by two characters.

The final chapter seems to shift a certain character too far from being believable.

CL Taylor is a good writer, but this is not her best work by a long way.

A truly magnificent listen.

The story was engaging, the pace was fab, the ending didn’t disappoint. The best of all was the narrator Clare Corbett. I have listened to quite a vast amount of audio books and I truly believe that she is just excellent.
The writhing and the narration worked perfectly 10/10.

Complex plot, suspend your belief... but it romps along

This was my first C L Taylor book and I don’t know whether I really liked it or not, but it was a compulsive listen so I guess that’s a good start.
None of the characters were that likeable and the plot stretched my belief system, as did the bionic men and women who bounced back from violent injuries and deprivation.
I did admire the writing skill though, often in thrillers the plot can drag but this one? Wow. James Bond would look like a slouch next to our heroine.
I was fascinated to get back to the story although the ending was predictable.
It was a good way to spend a Sunday and the gritty subject matter, the grooming of teenage girls, was well executed.
The narrator did a great job too, and feel compelled to seek out other C L Taylor novels now.

Brilliant

I have listened to hundreds of audiobooks from Audible and this is right up there with my favourites. It's a very addictive story with wonderful narration - Clare Corbett has a skilful, adaptable, lovely voice. I hated having to pause it at the end of my breaks at work! I actually woke up this morning planning when I could next listen to it. So looking forward to finding out how it ends. (Only 45 minutes to go!)
