Summary

The Fire is book two in Rick Fuller's Manchester Trilogy.
Rick Fuller, a once decorated SAS hero, now Manchester hit man, likes nothing better than disposing of his employer's rivals in return for a suitcase of cash. His spectacular fall from grace and obsession to discover the identity of the IRA terrorist who gunned down his wife all but destroyed him.
Ten years have passed since that fateful day, and Ireland has seen many changes. The man who slaughtered Cathy Fuller on her doorstep in Hereford in 1996 is now the First Minister of the Province, but Fuller is more determined than ever to get his revenge.

Too far fetched and the format drives you mad

I listened to the first Rick Fuller book and enjoyed it. I then bought this and then the third. The stories are getting more and more far-fetched and unrealistic and for me, the worst thing is that every few minutes, a new chapter starts with the words 'Rick Fuller's story", "Lauren North's story" or some other chap. It's really does get on your nerves especially as some chapters are only a minute or two long and this comes every time. I don't know whether it is one narrator or three but two of the voices are that similar, it is difficult to follow. It would be far better to have a woman speaking the woman's part. This totally ruined it for me and as I said, the stories are now beyond belief.

A good story marred by unusual sequencing

underlying story is good but approach used to tell story from each characters perspective as the timeline advances does not work for me, results in fragmented storyline and frequent quiet narration loses overall appeal
