Summary

For former Marine sniper Dox, a long-range hit in Cambodia was supposed to be just business as usual. But when you find yourself mixed up with rogue intelligence operations, gorgeous bar girls, and the world's worst human-trafficking heart of darkness, business is anything but usual. And making it personal is the most dangerous business of all.

Good Short Listen

I love the Dox character so this was a nice deviation from the typical book in the Rain series. He can be ruthless when needed, but inside he has a soft heart.

Excellent Dox short story by Barry Eisler!

While listening to The Night Trade, a new release in Eisler's Livia Lone series, I remembered listening to The Khmar Kill early in 2014. Former US Marine sniper Dox had already appeared in some novels in the John Rain series as assassin for hire (usually working for the CIA). Dox is a colorful and loud Texan. In The Night Trade Rithisak Sorm is the primary antagonist. Sorm's name appears in this short story as the child trafficker Dox is supposed to kill.

Repeating offbeat characters like Dox and Delilah are part of what makes the John Rain series one of the best.
