Summary

Another edge-of-the-seat mystery from Miss Marple.

One minute, silly Heather Badcock had been gabbling on at her movie idol, the glamorous Marina Gregg. The next, Heather suffered a massive seizure. But for whom was the deadly poison really intended?

Marina's frozen expression suggested she had witnessed something horrific. But, while others searched for material evidence, Jane Marple conducted a very different investigation—into human nature.

Glad I bought it

Personally, I don’t understand why the narration got so many negative reviews. I have heard some terrible ones on here, this wasn’t one of them.
I hadn’t read this book, I had watched the Rock Hudson and Elizabeth Taylor version, so I knew the story.
For Marple lovers, she probably actually isn’t in it (the story) enough but I enjoyed it.

An excellent mystery

A very good Agatha Christie story, not simply for the murder mystery itself but for the social context and the examination of changing times. Miss Marple is wonderful, particularly in her dealings with her annoying lady companion Miss Knight. Emilia Fox also does a very good job of narrating the story.

Typical Agatha

I've previously only seen this story on TV, played by the only Miss Marple in my opinion, Joan Hickson.

The story moves along quite slowly really but is a good listen with plenty of background and quite a few differences to the TV series.

Enjoyable, but probably only a one-time listen for me.

VOCAL FRY!!!

Disappointed that this is the only narration available. Not a relaxing voice for listening to, I’m constantly wincing at the vocal cry and her character voices are extremely irritating. Some narrators can make you float away into the story but Ms Fox sounds a student forced to read aloud in class. However, Dame Agatha doesn’t disappoint and I have no complaints about the story.

Another great book from A C

I took a little while to get into this one, but when the plot unfolded it didn’t disappoint! It was so enjoyable and has a charm that is addictive- ingenious and funny, keeping you guessing right up to the end. Emilia Fox is a fab narrator- managing so many different characters with ease.
I am looking forward to listening to the next.

Marvelous Miss Marple!

This, my first Audible listen to an Agatha Christie book, was pure pleasure & perfectly performed by actress Emilia Fox.
Although familiar with the story from a screen adaptation, and knowing the far reaching health consequences of being infected with German Measles whilst pregnant, the unravelling of the mystery was still enthralling. It is timeless piece, as how can one not be delighted with the old fashioned but insightful musings of marvelous Miss Marple?

Great Christie!

I’ve known this story for many years now but my first audiobook of it. May I say the narration was superb, as you would expect from the extremely professional Emilia Fox and as so many audiobooks are disappointing owing to dreadful narration, this is definitely not one of them. Here’s hoping that convincingly good narration is on the top of all authors lists in the future as it is so very important to the listener and brings the story to life. Agatha Christie stories in my view still hold premium spot for a good old fashion ‘whodunit’.

Predictable plot, drawn out story and dreadful performance

I am sorry, but this is not a good book and I am planning to return it. It is my first Agatha Christie’s book in which I knew “who did it” right from the start, the story was way too drawn out with unnecessary scenes of domestic life, which could be described as “padding” or simply “drivel”. Cardboard cutouts of characters all speaking in very annoying voices with strange accents and intonations, bringing me to the point of performance, which is simply dreadful in my opinion. Some characters’ voices were performed in a really strained voice, making it actually physically uncomfortable to listen, almost as though an actor is about to have a bout of cough or vomit. American accents were just awful to listen to. I did not enjoy this book at all, actually made me irritated. What a huge disappointment and a waste of time of a book, which is getting returned. I want my money back!
