Summary

A grisly murder. A six-year-old eyewitness. A gun from the grave.
The Profiler's Daughter is a psychologically haunting thriller that combines murder mystery, love triangle, and family intrigue in one satisfying page burner.
Sky Stone was born into the wealth and privilege of Boston's oldest Brahmin family but chooses instead to follow in the footsteps of her deceased father, legendary FBI profiler Monk Stone. In the chilly morning hours before the Boston Marathon, when a beautiful university student is found strangled and mutilated, her body left at the base of Heartbreak Hill, Sky returns from self-imposed exile to investigate. Thirty-six hours into the investigation, Sky's world turns upside down when she is fired from the Homicide team. They pin the murder on an innocent man, forcing Sky into a life-threatening game of cat and mouse with the real killer. From the stately mansions of Beacon Hill to the flat scrubland of central Texas, Sky keeps the reader on a razor's edge, culminating in a no-holds-barred shoot-out.
The Profiler's Daughter, the first in the Sky Stone Thriller series, introduces a moody, enigmatic, and brilliant female sleuth with the fierce bite of Stieg Larsson's Lisbeth Salander. As adeptly written as Martin Cruz Smith's complex Arkady Renko novels, this thriller offers an intriguing plot, richly detailed characters, and an astonishing conclusion guaranteed to leave the listener begging for more.

Awful narration = poor story

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

I couldnt get past the first few chapters. The narration was awful... the voices of the characters were way over the top in tone and characterisation. It would be interesting to know why she felt the need to do this. On top of that the main character narration is told in a quiet whiny voice that made me want to slap her.........

Has The Profiler's Daughter put you off other books in this genre?

no

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Oh gosh yes completely

You didn’t love this book--but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I wasnt able to listen long enough to know if the story was any good

What a great find

Would you consider the audio edition of The Profiler's Daughter to be better than the print version?

I didn't read the print version. My wife did and told me I had to download Profilers Daughter as my next listen. I didn't need much of a push as I could tell from how she was reacting when she was reading, it was a real page turner. At least there is one thing we still agree on after 25 years of marriage - Profilers Daughter is a great read!

What other book might you compare The Profiler's Daughter to and why?

Defending Jacob

Have you listened to any of Gabrielle de Cuir’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm not sure but I will look for others. It was a good performance. As you know if you listen to many books, a poor performance can ruin a great book. That did not happen hear.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I didn't want to stop listening. iI was frustrating at times as I listen in my car. When I arrived at my destination I would be frustrated because I had to stop....or I would keep listening as I did one night in my drive way from mi-night to quarter to one!

Any additional comments?

I was impressed with the character development. Including one particular character I did not like. Steffen really made me despise the character. Not because of something they did...just the way the character"s personality came across. My wife said it was because it reminded me of my old boss. She is probably right. Steffen is descriptive - yet does not over do it just to impress us with an excess of words. The story flows nicely and I was never wondering "OK where is she going now and why is she telling me this" without soon getting the answer.

Hooked on Sky, next book, quickly, please

If you could sum up The Profiler's Daughter in three words, what would they be?

Entertaining, interesting, fun

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

For most of the book. In a few places it lagged but picked quickly and easily.

What about Gabrielle de Cuir’s performance did you like?

Sometimes it was hard distinguishing characters.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The pain of losing a child, was heart wrenching.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to listen to more of Sky Stone. I hope the author writes quickly
