Summary

When troubled teen Connor moves to Exeter from the US after a horrific school shooting, he finds himself embroiled in a world of popular kids and easy girls. Everyone wants to be his friend, but they don’t know about what he did...and they don’t know about his father.

As Connor’s life in England begins to unravel, DS Adrian Miles and his partner, Imogen Grey, are working up against the clock to catch a serial killer who dates his victims before he kills them. Determined to uncover the truth, Imogen is forced to act as bait - but will she take it too far and risk her own life?

Katerina Diamond is back with a bang in this dark, twisted novel, perfect for fans of M. J. Arlidge and Karin Slaughter.

"A deliciously dark read, Katerina Diamond keeps her readers guessing throughout as she leads us on a very secretive, VERY twisted journey...everything I was expecting from a well-written, pacy thriller." (Lisa Hall, author of Between You and Me)

Fantastic

This is the fourth book I’ve either read or listened to by Katerina Diamond. Complex often dark crime thrillers with good strong characters. This latest drama didn’t disappoint.

It’s well read by Stevie Lacey. The narrator uses different voices for the characters so you know who is speaking, the downside of this is that by reading the book directly a lot of quotes are followed by ‘said ...’ so you’re told who’s talking but you already knew as it was their voice. I found mildly irritating.

Easy listen

I really like this series but felt the ending of this was too quick, there were a few loose story ends that’s could have done with finishing/finalising.

Generally an easy listen though, looking forward to the next one.

Just brilliant

If you use audio books to try and get to sleep this is not the one, it is too exciting, really enjoyed this one and the whole series so far.

Triggers

A teenage boy Connor who lived most of his life in America returns to the U.K. under a cloud hoping for a fresh start with his abusive father. He has another man in his life, a best friend of his Dad who he has always known as his uncle.

The return of Connor and his Dad triggers something in a family member, but who….

There is a murderer on the loose who is targeting women who have a certain look and he meets them via online dating. There seemed to be more than one story going on and the connection is revealed right near the end. For me it felt like 3 sections then the penny dropped.

Impish

Interesting progress of the characters but I thought some elements were a little far fetched hence the docked star. Builds up really well, weaving several strands, but ending maybe a little too neat? Good though!

It was okay.

Bit teen romance for me, unfortunately I'm not interested in 16 year olds in love.

the best one so far.

this book in my opinion is the best of the series so far. I hope the next book will be as good as this one.

Disappointing

I’ve loved Katerina Diamond’s previous novels, especially ‘The Teacher’ but this one was a bit of a let down. I found the rambling romantic aspects unnecessary and irritating. A lot of threads relating to Connor bear no resemblance to real life whatsoever and as other reviewers have commented, there are a lot of loose ends. I hope there is a return to form in the next instalment.

Not as good as previous books

Great Narrator and loved her previous books but found this one really disappointing because there is no twists or turns. Only a very predictable conclusion to the tale. Well written though and finished it really quickly. Easy listening but I hope with the next installment it is harder to guess the ending.
