Summary

When widower Sidney Middleton is found dead in his cottage from carbon monoxide poisoning, Sheila Malory is deeply disturbed. On recent meetings the kindly old man had seemed in rude health and the official explanation that the wood-burning stove was faulty just doesn't seem to add up. When she uncovers some rather shocking information…information that paints the late Sidney in a very different light, Sheila begins to wonder who the real Sidney was, and how many people might have borne him a grudge?

Another great Hazel Holt

Never disappointed to read a Hazel Holt to date. Set in great places and with plots to match - believable and engrossing.

Plot a bit thin

Found the plot of this a very thin and went on for far too long. I had guessed the killer halfway through- though not the reasons. red herrings too weak. I am surprised no one has yet strangled Sheila Malory as she is a dreadful snob and SO patronising to the "lower class" characters! The amount of times she says "splendid" is annoying. I also get fed up with descriptions of the animals being fed/ walked etc. why would she keep animals if she finds them so tiresome? A little more plot a little less animal feeding padding would be good. Another book which just ends suddenly.

Excellent story and characters

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

This story makes me wish I lived near Tavistock. I loved the plot and the characters and the descriptions of life in that place.

Which character – as performed by Patricia Gallimore – was your favorite?

Sheila Malory
