Summary

Tim Johnson took his baby daughter out for a walk, and she never made it home. Johnson claims he was assaulted and the girl was snatched. The police see a different crime, with Johnson their only suspect.

A year later Sam Bryne is on course to be elected as one of the youngest MPs in Westminster. He's tipped for the very top...until he vanishes.

Detectives Murphy and Rossi are tasked with discovering what has happened to the popular politician - and in doing so, they unearth a trail that stretches into the past and crimes that someone is hell-bent on avenging.

Critic reviews

"Luca Veste has talent for exposing the ugliness of the criminal mind.... For readers in search of disturbing and dark, you have come to the right place." ( Crime Review)
"What I loved most about this book is how topical it is, how you can see it is inspired by news events and gives you a very fictional account of things we have seen occur over the past few years, boosted to the extremes." ( Nudge Book)

Really enjoyable!

I love this series. Luca Veste writes so well, both in his descriptions of circumstance and in dialogue. Murphy and Rossi are great characters and now feel like old friends. Veste also writes the grissly stuff with a light touch. There is blood and gore of course. A book like this needs it, but there is just enough, leaving the reader/listener to imagine more. Too many crime fiction books recently tip into the horror genre by having excessive gore. The story itself here is very engaging and, as always, Jonathan Keeble provides fabulous narration. Highly recommended.

Slow to start and slower to finish

The Scouse accent was terrible, I had to slow the audio down to understand it. The story never really had a point and dragged on and on. it did wonders for my insomnia. The ending was so dull. not the worst book I've listened to but close.

Not Bad

I really enjoyed the first two thirds of the book but felt it got a little far fetched towards the end

Boys will be boys, alas !!!!!

A riveting story that kept me listening all day. Plenty to say about the respect for women which I personally found good. A bit of a surprise ending as well to make things more interesting . Well done

Simple, straightforward police procedural

A good book with a simple plot line. Once it gets going it gets interesting. Not too fast paced. Would read more of his books.

Great listen

A great read, love the main characters and the plot took many twists and turns. Wasn't the ending I though but great all the same. Highly recommended
