Summary

A three-year-old girl is snatched from a beach. Nobody heard a sound. Nobody saw a thing.

Rosie Gilmour's much-needed holiday is cut short when the abduction story breaks and she's sent to cover it. Her instincts tell her something's wrong: such a crime must surely have witnesses, and the girl's mother's story doesn't add up.

With a child's life at stake, Rosie must dig deeper into the seedy depths of the area, making dangerous enemies.

As she closes in on the truth, she realises the penalty for missing this particular deadline could be her own demise.

Critic reviews

"Having been glued to the opening chapters of To Tell The Truth, I applaud her ... this is a social issue that's worth discussing" (Scottish Sun)
"The book is as perfectly paced and neatly plotted as any Ian Rankin novel, with a wide appeal for both male and female readers" (Daily Mail).

I am so pleased to have discovered Anna Smith

This is the second novel by this author that I have read, I am totally gripped by her stories, I love her characters - they are compassionate and intelligent.

The story is full of intrigue - and I found that I could hardly put it down, finished in one day.

There were some 'nasty bits', but these were dealt with by Rosie and her 'team'. I really enjoyed this and will soon be downloading book 3 in the series.

Enjoying this series - very well read

Loving this series - I am enjoying each book more than the last! Away from the normal detective thriller but still has some tense moments to keep you hooked to see what happens.

Already on the next book and thoroughly enjoying that one too - a great series very well read.

Really loving these Rosie Gilmour Stories

I rated the first Rosie Gilmour story 'the dead won't sleep' 5 star in all aspects. The second in the series gets 4 stars from me.
The story is brilliant, a real audio 'page turner', I cared about the characters, I wanted to know what was going to happen, and was drawn in to want to know how it would all work out. So found it really enjoyable, a great listen.
The reason for dropping a star? The plot contains similar themes to the first Rosie Gilmour , and Sarah Barron's accents for some of the foreign characters were a bit unconvincing (to me at least - probably spot on, but didn't match my stereotypes).
Bottom line, if you enjoy Anna Smith books this is another cracker - get it.

Gripping Storyline But Too Many Coincidences!

Any additional comments?

Sarah Barron is a wonderful narrator with a warm, rich voice but there were just too many characters and accents for her in this book. Her characterisation of the Scottish characters is superb but the Moroccan rent boy, the British cabinet minister, the Bosnian refugee and the Spanish private eye were less than convincing!

OK

Found this book to be very much like book one. The only difference was the location.
Really had to struggle towards the middle to keep listening.

A CRACKING STORY

I might not be a literary critic and wouldn't wish to be one, I just want to loose myself in a good read and this was definitely one. There was never a dull moment in this book. There were many characters, a lot of names to keep track of which I usually have trouble with, here though I kept track because the characters came to life and were memorable. Sarah Barren is a great narrator, she does many voices without being over the top which gives the characters life . I highly recommend this book.

Too complicated and long winded for me.

Any additional comments?

Only half way through this book and I have given up. So far we have been introduced to about 30 characters (which is too many for my liking). Just reached the point her long lost dying father is introduced and if this were a tangible book It would have been thrown across my bedroom at this point. I did not have enough rapport with any of the characters to endure this no doubt predictable book to the end. Thank Goodness for audible returns :-)
