Summary

A family Christmas, a blizzard, and a deadly virus let loose. Filled with startling twists, Whiteout is the ultimate knife-edge drama from bestselling author Ken Follett.

A Family Reunited

As a blizzard descends from the north on Christmas Eve, several people converge on a remote family estate in Scotland. Stanley Oxenford, director of a pharmaceutical research company, has everything riding on a drug he is developing to fight a lethal virus.

A Brewing Storm

Several others are interested in his success too: his children, at home for Christmas with their offspring, have their eyes on the money he will make; Toni Gallo, forced to resign from the police department in disgrace, is betting her career on keeping the drug safe; and a local television reporter, determined to move up, has sniffed the story, even if he has to bend the facts to tell it.

A House Under Siege

A sinister gang spots an opportunity to use one of Stanley’s children against him and steal the virus. As everyone takes shelter, it becomes apparent that being inside the house may be more dangerous than the storm outside, especially when a lethal virus might be on the loose...

Critic reviews

"Human betrayal, medical terror and a race against time...this is gasp a minute stuff by a vintage practitioner." (Daily Mail)

A really great story with a gripping fast moving plot and well drawn characters. Liked the narrator also.

Wonderful

Another arresting page turner (or whatever the audio equivalent is!)
Fast paced and while slightly implausible I was bowled along by it. Great!

Worth Reading

Enjoyed the book a real page turner. My only criticism is that everything that could possibly go wrong did go wrong - nobody could be that unlucky!
Very well read by the narrator.

Tension builds and this book is a real page turner however at times it felt as if it was one crisis followed by another

An excellent book which kept me riveted but also a little frustrated as bad things kept happening! A great narrator and the characters were believable and live in your mind long after you have finished the book.

Not Ken's finest, but ok

This should have been called "I wish someone had a mobile phone on them". I also would recommend that this is read just before Christmas.

Excellent plot and well written

Ken Follett really does know how to draw the listener in, There were parts of the story that I really didn't enjoy, and few of the characters that I liked, which is why I have gone for 4 stars for overall enjoyment. This is probably an indication of how well it is written, as I felt rage, irritation and on occasions wanted to give someone a good slap!
It was well read by Sally Armstrong, and overall and excellent story that I found hard to put down.

Great Narration

This book is extremely well narrated by Sally Armstrong. She excelled in her portrayal of the various accents and different voices

Having read three other Ken Follett books (Fall of Giants, Edge of Eternity and Pillars of the Earth) which I rated all three as five star, this one did not hit the mark. It is still worth reading, but just fell a bit short of his usual high standard.

Excelent

The description of this story is ridiculously lame and, at first, I didn't even bother putting it on my wish list.
It's tense, it's thrilling, it's original. A very, very good read.
