Brilliant book and well narrated
This is a really well written book, which kept me hooked all the way through. I did guess quite a lot of it, some just based on the title but this didn't detract from the story in the slightest.
Not only is the book really well written it is also really well narrated by Roshina, who has an amazing accent.
The book follows Kirsten in 2021 as she is struggling to get pregnant in South Africa. The story follows everything from her point of view, along with a man called Seth and so we learn things along the way at the same time they do.
I really liked the way the story followed both people, although we don't learn as much about Seth as we do about Kirsten, for reasons that are made apparent towards the end.
Overall this is a brilliant start to the series, but can also be read/listened to as a standalone book as there is a conclusion to it - it doesn't end on a cliff hanger. I'm now off to listen to the next in the series.

Easy read mystery
Would you listen to Why You Were Taken again? Why?
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Any additional comments?

The book kept you wondering from moment to moment and you never determined ahead of time what would happen. It was a simple read though somewhat confusing with the multiple time lines. Overall the story line held together well and did not disappoint.

Entertaining and enjoyable
Overall a very entertaining, engaging and enjoyable story. Even though it is an interesting, original and creative story it was very confusing in the beginning. Stick with it. It's worth it.
The unfamiliar setting of South Africa, the difference in words/slang used, the back and forth in time periods and the "altered" world in which the story takes place all added to the confusion. Despite being confusing in the beginning it's like watching an Indie film, you have no clue what is going on but little by little things start to come together. The story moves at a slower pace in the beginning and as things start to make sense it picks up pace as you are drawn deeper and deeper into the story. Before you know it you are so caught up in the story you can't stop listening. I do have to say it was about chapter 13 before I was completely drawn into the story. From that point on I wanted to listen in one sitting and was irritated anytime I had to pause the book. It is definitley a series I will continue with.
Good cast of interesting and well rounded characters. Kirsten(Kate) and Seth(Sam) are both interesting characters. Keke just about stole the show though. She was just one of characters that has personality that jumps off the page.
There were a couple of times I wanted to shake some sense into Kirsten. When you find out you’re a target, hurry up and leave, you don’t stop and take a few minutes to…..can't say or I'd be giving some of the story away.
This is the first time I have listened to Roshina Ratnam narrate a book. She did a fantastic job with the narration. Nice voice that it easy to listen to for long periods of time. Her voice fit the characters. Clearly spoken with a nice smooth pace. Really good character voices. Both male and female. She was able to bring the characters and the story to life. Hopefully she will be narrating the rest of the series. I'm looking forward to listening to more books she narrates in the future. Very enjoyable.

I really liked this book. I got this and the second from the author and then bought the third book in the series. I am not sure if it was me or the fact that it was an audio book and I was trying to listen to it during the holidays which are normally nuts, but I had a hard time immersing myself in the story for about 25% of the book... then everything clicked and it took off for me. I got into the characters, the writing style, the background, all of it except the racy bits. Not really into that, but I get why it was in there. If you start this book, be prepared to finish the series because there is a lot going on.
I particularly enjoyed the picture of the not-too-distant world and layout of the locations. This was a fun book for me because it made me pay attention to it. Nothing was spoon-fed to me and I like that. I also really loved listening to Roshina Ratnam narrate. I thought she did a fantastic job.
This book was given to me for free at my request for my voluntary and unbiased review.
