Summary

He is a record collector and a connoisseur of vinyl, hunting out rare and elusive LPs. His business card describes him as the Vinyl Detective, and some people take this more literally than others.

For example, the beautiful, mysterious woman who wants to pay him a large sum of money to find a priceless lost recording on behalf of an extremely wealthy yet shadowy client. And so begins a painful and dangerous odyssey in search of the rarest jazz record of them all....

Fabulous

This is a wonderful book. I wanted to find out what would happen but didn't want it to end. It is well read too and, yes, there are cats in it. A giggling good read.

a new obsession

A fresh take on the detective genre. Imagine Poirot lived in 2010 and had a liking for LP'S , cats and fine wine. And you get the idea. Well worth a listen, I have now downloaded them all.

err...

I nearly gave up on this. I ended up playing it on 2x. The book is very good but takes a long time to get going. About half way the story gets interesting and is as my 5 stars shows, a good listen. But.. you have to stick with it as the first half is well read but a little bit boring. The last 50% of the book actually make it worth listening to the first half so stick with it. A really worthwhile listen but very very slow to get to the meat and potatoes.

Started a bit slow but it was intriguing

I really though I wasn’t going to be able to stick with this. Wasn’t drawn in by the story teller and it just felt a bit stilted. However, I stuck with it and was reward. Great story, learnt loads, and narrator turned out to be perfect.

Groovy

Excellent story and characters. Slightly over descriptive. Full of style. In the groove. Nice.

Good, solid story. Interesting characters.

This book ticks all of the boxes. It's not overly complicated, but the plot has all the twists and turns expected for a genre of this kind. The characters are believable. Also, there is clearly a good standard of research into vinyl and record recording, which ties in very neatly with the plot development. This would make a good TV series.
