Summary

The highly anticipated sequel to the thrilling New York Times best-selling Six of Crows.

Kaz Brekker and his crew have just pulled off a heist so daring even they didn't think they'd survive. But instead of divvying up a fat reward, they're right back to fighting for their lives. Double-crossed and badly weakened, the crew is low on resources, allies, and hope. As powerful forces from around the world descend on Ketterdam to root out the secrets of the dangerous drug known as jurda parem, old rivals and new enemies emerge to challenge Kaz's cunning and test the team's fragile loyalties. A war will be waged on the city's dark and twisting streets - a battle for revenge and redemption that will decide the fate of the Grisha world.

seven samurai meets Dallas

wasn't sure how I felt about the first book in this series but with this one I was completely enthralled. The characters are well developed and within the swashbuckling and magic there is some genuine pathos, the performance by a number of different readers works perfectly as they are all excellent. Story line twists and turns and at times leaves you unable to predict where it will go.

My new obsession!

I’ve fallen deeper and deeper into this world or utter intrigue. I’ve really embraced these characters wholly and obsession doesn’t even come close. Usually listening to a very long and complex book without having read it first is off putting for me but I found it easy to follow along. I will be rereading as soon as my paper back copies arrive so I go and highlight some of my favourite parts.

Brilliant

Great writing in this duology. Strong characters with questionable alignment to dark or light. Lots of surprises and lots of unexpected plot twists.

what a story

I think the narrators was perfect for their rolls. some was a little lacking in prefromance compared to others. But I think the best part was the character development for some of them. this book is up there with the best!

A rare thing

It doesn’t happen very often that the last book in a series it is as good or better than the first. But this was the case with this book and I’m reading that I read them. I thoroughly enjoyed enjoyed the series

Sooo good!

How is this so good?!
How do so many things happen in this tiny book? And how did I forget half of them??
But also: good that I did, because this made the whole reread so much more entertaining 😎

Good sequel, but same weird performance choice

I'm not going to wax lyrical about the plot because you should just take it as a given that it's a good story. That said, whoever made the editorial decision to get a different actor to read the entire chapter lost their mind. It would have been *amazing* to have each actor read all of their character's dialogue lines, but to have each character 'speaking' out of all six of the actor’s voices (at one point Jesper had a British accent??) was sheer lunacy. They all read it well and had any one of them done the whole book I would have been happy. But this was a Frankenstein’s monster-esque reading. All that said, even after suffering this strange performance choice on the first book I still chose to get book 2. (Half because it's a great story, and half because I’m emotionally stunted and need closure.)
