Disappointing 'Christmas' Collection
What would have made Dark Holidays better?
By trying to stay with the Christmas time setting of these stories, which whilst only apt for a few, as the ones selected were only mildly entertaining, generally humorous or spooky rather than truly horrific (apart from the William Hope Hodgson, 'From A Tideless Sea' which was truly blood-chilling but not enough to pass muster inn the LONG running time of this collection for this collection) produced instead of a chiiling sensation produced only boredom and sleepiness. I feel because of this, and especially because of the title of the collection, "Dark HOLIDAYS", it would have been better to have compiled a selection of actually SCARY stories instead. I suggest people if they wish to find truly seasonable chills that they look elsewhere, probably at a good collection by M. R. James. I myself would have this done this, but I wanted to try a change from those tales of his, as I am all too familiar with them. I just wish I had chosen another collection of ghost stories to accompany my seasonal listening.
What will your next listen be?
Not horror or ghost stories, but maybe something more fantastical, classic or Sherlockian.
Would you listen to another book narrated by the narrator?
There were several narrators, all different and excellent, but I wouldn't know which narrator read each story, so I would find it difficult to follow them up.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. Also sleepiness due to the slowness and lack of thrills of some of these stories.
Any additional comments?
As the William Hope Hodgson story stood out, may I suggest a way of finding another audio publisher who has also done this same story and who has hopefully compiled it with other equally excellent stories of his?

Skip This One!
I'm a fan of classic ghost stories, so I purchased this audiobook and looked forward to listening to it. I am not impressed with it - the narrators are...okay at best. Some stories and narration was good (like Hodgson's "From the Tideless Sea"), but mostly bad. Also, I'm not a fan of humorous ghost stories, so if you're like me and aren't a fan, watch out as there's a few in this collection. Skip this one.

If only it didn't have the Signalman
These are a great selection of stories, but I am rather sick of "The Signalman" by Charles Dickens, it's in far too many collections.
