Summary

A killer is on the loose....

The Scottish Hebrides - Inspector Torquil McKinnon has returned to the remote Scottish island of West Uist to devastating news. His closest friend, Constable Ewan McPhee, is missing, presumed dead.

When more bodies are found in suspicious circumstances, it is clear a serial killer is at large.

Tensions are high, and paranoia is rife.

Can Torquil restore peace to the tight-knit community? Will he find out what happened to Constable McPhee? Or will he too fall prey to the depraved murderer?

Oh dear

I had pre-ordered this one so was particularly disappointed when I started to listen and realised that it's just not very good. Imagine Monarch of the Glen crossed with River City...stereotypical nasty land owner and bumbling crofters. The story is told through a vast array of different characters, none of whom I found I had any interest in. The Anne Cleeve Shetland novels have such a strong sense of place that I can imagine myself there and always make me want to visit. This imaginery corner of the Western Isles seems dreary and unreal. It's going back.

Brilliant and written perfect

Love the way it is written. You think you know the who and what, then you get a twist. It's like walking through a maze and finding a dead end. The humour I find myself laughing as I listen to the book which gets me looks when out walking. I also think the narrator is perfect. I have listened to a few of his books now and that is 1 of the 1st things I look for when picking a new book to listen to. I have in past looked over books thinking I wouldn't like them but have now listened to them due to the guy narrating.

Quite hard work

I didn’t enjoy book. Boring. Nothing much happened and a very weak ending . Luckily It was ok as back round noise while doing housework . But if you want a decent story this one is not for u . Skip !

"Deathly Wind"

These books just keep getting better and better. The sheer nastiness of the bad guys, and the crimes, manages to save the characters and the highland setting from the twee-ness of Hamish McBeth and his ilk. I really hope there will be more to come.

A light hearted murder mystery

An enjoyable listen, Torquil is a very laid back detective and some fun characters, looking forward to reading more in the series

Past and present all caught up in the coldness of our lives

I felt I was there in real life, wild natural environment along with human weaknesses, and a pub to share my moans and groans..

Unique story set in a wonderful community.

I have loved these gentle stories. Unusual plot lines and beautiful descriptions of island life and settings. I hope there will be more.

Pleasant

This is book 2 with Inspector Torquil McKinnon on Uist. I found the books in the Audible Plus Catalogue and the series is pleasant to listen to and I have found myself wanting to see how the characters grow. Story was ok and narration pleasant.

Love it

Having listened to all three of the books on Audible I have to plead with you to record the next four. It is a crime that you don’t.
