Summary

They say that the cure for love will make me happy and safe forever. And I've always believed them. Until now. Now everything has changed. Now, I'd rather be infected with love for the tiniest sliver of a second than live a hundred years suffocated by a lie.

There was a time when love was the most important thing in the world. People would go to the end of the earth to find it. They would tell lies for it. Even kill for it. Then, at last, they found the cure.

FANTASTIC **********

This may well be teen fiction but I am 33 years old and loved this.

It took a bit of geting used to, a world without love where love is banned and religion and life has been re-written. I guess you do spend most of the book desperately wanting Lana to "see the light" so it can be frustrating at times, but the book is about her journey and as it's a trilogy the story is about her development and change.

It's a good idea for a story, and I like the change from the current endless Vampires, ghosts, witches, angels, fairies in books... It's a futuristic life story and a clever idea. It's very American as is the narration, but it's well worth a listen and certainly took the bore out of my comute.

Guilty pleasure

I know I am meant to be an adult but this young adults novel gripped me. I enjoyed thinking about live without love and the book managed to acheive realism with a circumstance that (hopefully) couldn't happen.

Awful Narration Great Story

The Narrators voice really grated on me and I didn't even make it past the first chapter. However, this writes of books in their own right is fantastic. Don't bother getting the audiobook, go straight for the novel to read by yourself.

The narration was absolutely terrible with this sort of high pitched accent. It was awful to listen too.

Fab

Where does Delirium rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

My fave audiobook so far. I loved closing my eyes and becoming engrossed. Wonderful narrator and gripping storyline.

What other book might you compare Delirium to, and why?

Maze runner and hunger games. Young adult fiction at its best.

Any additional comments?

I loved this

Great Narration; Young story; Good listen

What did you like best about Delirium? What did you like least?

The best thing was definitely the narrating, Sarah Drew did a brilliant job and even though I wouldn’t rate the story highly I liked listening to this audiobook. What I liked least was that the story felt very young. I think this would be a great read for anyone under the age of 16 but the very obvious love triangle and predictable story was just not for me!

Would you ever listen to anything by Lauren Oliver again?

I wouldn’t read any of her other books but if they are narrated by Sarah Drew then I would give them a go if I wanted a light listen.

What does Sarah Drew bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Great acting, emotion, I could really get into the mind-set of the main character.

If this book were a film would you go see it?

Maybe.

Any additional comments?

Overall I liked the narrating but the story let it down.

HIghly recommended, if you're a YA

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, if they were under 20. I found it rather simplistic, both in plot and language. But I am not the target audience, who I'm sure will love it. Highly recommended for them.

Great story!

What did you like most about Delirium?

Completely different from anything else I've read! Sarah Drew is a credit to the story and I enjoyed listening to her.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lena (the main character) plays a naive and imperfect girl who starts to discover the complexity of her world and how everything is not quite as it seems.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It didn't make me laugh or cry but I couldn't put the book down, but there's still two more books to come so you never know!

Any additional comments?

So far I think this would make a great movie series!

Good start

What made the experience of listening to Delirium the most enjoyable?

The very good narration.

What does Sarah Drew bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

Well... every narration is an interpretation that changes the way the story and the characters are percieved. I have difficulties reading books on paper or ebooks, so I only listen, which means I've had to get used to any kind of voice and narration, good or bad, as the only means of getting to the story. Consequently, I'm not picky. But I do appreciate good narrations, and Sarah Drew's interpretation seemed to enrich my experience of the book. I loved her narration especially in the third volume of the series, where she's really perfect!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, yes :) Roll my eyes a lot, too, for the "romance" parts.

Any additional comments?

Halfway through I almost gave up. I couldn't see what made the two main characters fall in love, the whole thing seemed exasperatingly shallow. Eye-rolling didn't help much... I read a few bad reviews that confirmed my opinion. However, since I don't abandon books easily, I gave it a few more minutes, during which I laughed a few times, and decided it was worth it just for that... I liked it in the end and even more so the next two volumes, especially the third.

Great, if standard, dystopian novel.

Would you consider the audio edition of Delirium to be better than the print version?

The story was easy to listen to whilst undertaking other tasks.

What did you like best about this story?

The story is interesting and thought provoking, whilst still being an easy listen. Sometimes predictable, but exciting all the same.

Have you listened to any of Sarah Drew’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This is the first performance of Drew's I have listened to. I found it easy to listen to.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It rarely encouraged extreme reactions such as laughing or crying however the book is exhilarating and interesting.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth a listen if your a fan of similar trilogies (The Hunger Games, Divergent...)
