Summary

"Robert Clinch loved his boat more that anything else in the world...more than his wife...his kids...his girlfiend...even more than the largemouth bass he was pursuing." Thus begins a twisted tale of murder in the world of big-stakes bass fishing tournaments. Filled with ex-wives, evangelists, and an armed pit-bull, this is a story that could only be concocted by Carl Hiaasen, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, New York Times best-selling author, and czar of Florida noir fiction.

Critic reviews

"The cast of bizarre characters and the suspenseful events confirm Hiaasen's reputation for creating singular villains and heroes. While he's probably unpopular among some fellow citizens in his home state, he will certainly please readers who appreciate the Swiftian wit in his cautionary tales." ( Publishers Weekly)
"The action is swift, and there are some very funny scenes." ( Library Journal)

Love Carl Hiaasen

I loved this book, so funny and engaging. Although there is a surreal quality I found myself really believing in the characters. I only discovered Carl Hiaasen recently and I've now downloaded most of his books. I'm rationing the last few now. I keep asking my friends if they have read any of his books and so far I've not found anyone who knows him, I wonder why? I am so glad I gave him a try even though I'd not heard of him, based on the reviews here and on amazon. I enjoyed the reading very much too, great voice and wry delivery when necessary.

Absurd great fun

Where does Double Whammy rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I'm glad to say I've heard a lot of good audiobooks, but double whammy is up there with the best. The narrator brings the characters to life, and the story is completely nuts but you still want to find out what happens. I'll be looking out for more from Carl Hiaasen.

Great, classic Hiaasen

This is one of his best, and narrated superbly too. You can rely on Hiaasen to make you laugh out loud while he gets his eco messages across, and kills the baddies too.

A cracking good listen

I've read a few of Carl Hiaasen's other books and enjoyed them, but this was my first Skink - I cannot believe I had never even heard of him, and like some other reviewers, I'm left wondering why on earth almost nobody else seems to have heard of him either. The book is a great romp, dark and serious at its heart, but laugh-out-loud funny and utterly surreal: the Lucas episode especially, and yet I somehow managed to suspend my disbelief and accepted it as if it were not entirely normal but yet somehow possible.

I'm going to make my OH listen to it. He'll thank me. Just damn good, often sensitively-written, and brilliantly narrated. Now for the second in the series!

a new dimension to Hiasson

I've always loved his books and this is one of my favourites, as it features the Governor heavily.

the narrator is excellent and brought something new to my mind's eye. like all of us I had a mental image of skink and whilst it took a little while to match the voice to the character by the end it felt right.

Skink

You will struggle to find a more compelling character than Skink. A brilliant story fantastically narrated.
