I am officially stuck on this series. It's just so much fun. The characters are real, have depth, inner struggles, and shortcomings. But, they are all so likeable. And, the laugh out load scenes are just so...real and funny. I love the writing. This series was recommended to me a while ago, and it just didn't look like something I'd like. So, I put it off. Then, someone recommended I start with book 4 and I loved it. I went back in again for book 1 and loved it just as much. I had to force myself to stop listening in order to actually get things done.
I love all the characters, but I have to note that I love strong female characters. They may hurt, be vulnerable, even cry. But, they aren't weak. And, I really liked Carly. Jase was pretty awesome too. And, his brothers are outrageous. Very much my husband and all of his brothers.
I admit, I was really skeptical of the narration when I started. The female narrator has this nasally sound in her voice, it's not really her tone or her voice, but in her voice at times. And she makes many of the females sound annoying. BUT, after just a few minutes, I wasn't noticing it. Her performance was so on point. The depth of emotional ups and downs and delivery was really good. Only when she would do some of the female characters, I would notice a little because she would give them this sing song, high pitched, nasally voice. But, I say that to say, I've stopped listening to a book for far less. Her natural tone, inflection, and performance actually had me enjoying it a lot. And, her male characters were done very well.
I was confused about the inclusion of the male narrator. While what he did do was really good. I'm not sure that he narrated even 30 minutes of this almost 9 hour book. Hours went by before he even showed up, and then it was for just a few lines or so. I thought at first it was an error that it said 2 narrators. He did a really great job, and I would have liked to hear more of him. Over all just a super fun listen, well worth the time.
