Editor reviews

The book of Esther is one of the only two books in the Bible named for a woman. It tells the story of a Jewish woman who risks her life to serve God and her people. It also explains the origin of Purim to the Jewish people. Thematically, this book confirms God's sovereignty and his resulting ability to save his children. Dr. Bill Creasy's analysis of this text includes quotations, historical background, and modern analogies. His lecture is accessible but in-depth. With confident delivery and skilled pacing, Dr. Creasy proves to be an exceptional lecturer. Meanwhile, he doesn't mind getting his hands dirty with the nitty-gritty of Esther's story. Thanks to Dr. Creasy's friendly tone, this talk is quite charming.

Summary

Ezra and Nehemiah tell the story of those who return to Judah to rebuild the temple and Jerusalem. In fact, little more than 40,000 people return, only about 10% of the Jewish population in the Persian Empire. Esther tells the story of the 90% who remain behind. This is a fabulous story - and Dr. Creasy tells us the “X-rated” version!
