One final game of cat and mouse...
Ex-FBI agent Elliot Mills thought he was done with the most brutal case of his career. The Sculptor, the serial killer he spent years hunting, is finally in jail. But Elliot's hope dies when he learns the murderer wasn't acting alone. Now everyone is at risk once again - thanks to a madman determined to finish his partner's gruesome mission.
When the lead agent on the case, Special Agent Tucker Lance, goes missing, Elliot knows it's the killer at work. After all, abducting the love of Elliot's life is the quickest way to hurt him.
The chances of finding Tucker are all but impossible without the help of the Sculptor - but the Sculptor is in no position to talk. Critically injured in a prison fight, he lies comatose and dying while the clock ticks down. Elliot has no choice but to play this killer's twisted game and hope he can find Tucker in time.

Well narrated thriller

3.5 stars
I was really looking forward to this final outing for Elliot and Lance, but in the end, it was a mixed bag for me. The narration was solid, but I found there was a nasty hiss with the 's' sound at the end of sentences for the first few hours of the book. I'm not sure if it got better as the book went on or if I just tuned out and got into the story more.

The first half of the book dragged, and the plot meandered all over the place with red - herrings a plenty. I found it really frustrating at times, especially the way Lanyon had written Elliot's internal monologs. Some of his thought processes were repetitive and nonsensical like she was dragging things out to hit a specific word count. (I really hate it when authors do that.) I wondered at times how the hell Elliot ever became an agent if that is how his mind works.

Suffice to say that when a major plot point occurred and Elliot didn't act straight away I was completely aghast. I'm not in law enforcement, and I have zero crime training but any fool knows that the fact they were investigating a serial killer who had a thing for Elliot meant they needed to be on guard 24/7.

I was expecting a more explosive ending but it was kind of taken out of Elliot and Lance's hands much too easily and ends were tied without either actually being involved. Anyway. I'm sure Lanyon mega fans will eat this up no matter what.

What a Book!

Would you listen to Fair Chance again? Why?

Absolutely. I rarely write reviews but was so blown away by the book and the narration that I couldn't resist.

What did you like best about this story?

Pretty much everything!

Which character – as performed by J. F. Harding – was your favorite?

Tucker!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I almost did . . . took several hours out of my day (and evening). I couldn't sleep so finally listened to the last two hours of the book starting about 2 am.

Any additional comments?

I generally like books by Josh Lanyon (and own quite a few in ebook format and audio) and this book was no exception. Prior to this series my favorite was the Adrien English series. However, with the last book in the "All's Fair" series this one wins hands down for me. I wonder if this is the last in the series . . . it seems like it . . . sadly.

The End

Any additional comments?

A very satisfying conclusion to a favorite mystery/suspense trilogy. Very good narration. Highly recommended.
