Summary

When Bertie's owner passes away, he has to learn the ways of a stray dog on the streets of war-torn London. Luckily he has the help of new friends both on two legs and four, but Bertie doesn't expect to find love again in the arms of one special little boy. When a second chance of happiness is threatened, Bertie knows he needs to do whatever he can to protect it, no matter what dangers lie in his path!

Great Book

I bought this book, not knowing exactly what I was getting for my money.

What I found was a brilliantly told story of the blitz of WW2, from Bertie's point of view. How many changes Bertie had in his life over a couple of year's, during which Britain declared war with Hitler, due to the Germans refusal to pull their troops out of Poland.

Bertie had a lot to learn. What was war, dealing with the use of Air Raid Sirens, and the all clear siren as well. As we know, animals, especially dogs, have really sensitive hearing, hearing which is so sensitive that Bertie found that they hurt when he had to hear these. He has different families, I don't want to spoil the story completely, but he does find himself with different families. He then finds that with such an acute sense of smell, he is able to help in the rescue efforts, and saves a number of lives, including that of Princess Williamina, his owner's precious cat who goes missing, a cat which takes an instant dislike to Bertie, but she eventually comes around to liking the loveable rascal.

Rather than say anymore and spoil the storyline for you, I'll say no more on that front.

What about the narration which can spoil a book completely. On this occasion David Fleeshman along with the numerous other character narration, really made this an enjoyable book for me. A book which I would recommend to you, and very highly indeed. Go on, do yourself a favour and buy the book for yourself or someone else. It's not a heavy read, probably best for travelling, before going to sleep at night etc.

As for oneself, I am going to see what else the author has to offer following this brilliant read, well listen as I own the Audible version, as well as the Kindle version. All that remains is for me to say, enjoy reading 'Bertie the Blitz Dog'.
