"The strangest things happen when you're dead." (May Elizabeth Trump) The deathly silence is about to be broken. She disliked the company of others and death did little to warm her spirit. She had led an independent life and she faced death in much the same way. She was finally alone, finally free from the mindless babble of others, at least that's what she thought. May Elizabeth Trump was the rarest of spirits and she was none too happy about it either. She was a dead medium, a ghost who can speak with the living, and her services were to become in great demand. Flung into the limelight and smothered with unwanted attention, May soon discovers that it is not only ghosts with long awaited messages that have taken an interest in her. Something dark was lurking in the shadows, stalking her. Even the dead are not left to rest in peace. Dead Medium: A humorous, character driven story and a unique vision of life after death. Not your average ghost story.

Give it a chapter or two.

After a slightly shaky start the narrator settles down to a rollicking read. A super mix of Hinge and Bracket with shades of Dame Maggie Smith brings the story alive. It's fun, fast and amusing. Ideal listening on a tedious journey.

A 3-dimensional ghost story, read with character

A simple tale of small town transcendentalism, with likeable, 3-dimension characters (although some are ghosts), and just enough happening to keep it entertaining.

Nicely read, with convincing characters and good pace - once the narrator's accents settles down after the first few chapters.

Hilarious! Calendar Girls meets Caspar the Ghost.

What did you love best about Dead Medium?

The book was really unusual. It's a mystery, and kind of a ghost story and a hilarious character comedic novel all at the same time. May Trump is a sort of likable curmudgeon... plain talking, no nonsense and with a wicked dry sense of sarcasm. When she dies she finds herself able to communicate with the living and becomes embroiled with a group of madcap amateur mediums who are kind of like Madame Arcate from Blithe Spirit times four. The book is very, very funny and the narration only adds to the humor. It was a delightful story to listen to.

What did you like best about this story?

I loved the characters - they are a great mixed bag of personalities. It really had the feel of a kind of Calendar Girls or Exotic Marigold Hotel kind of energy combined with the grouchy, lovable humor of MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin novels. May Trump is a fabulous character and the author manages to create surprising levels and emotional depth to the story despite the far-fetched supernatural premise.

Have you listened to any of Joel Froomkin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I haven't... but this is excellent. He has a great sense of comedic style - it really feels like you're listening to a radio drama performed by a bunch of witty grande dames. He made me laugh out loud several times.

Who was the most memorable character of Dead Medium and why?

It would be pretty hard to choose someone other than May Trump. She's got a Maggie Smith cutting humor that is hilarious.

Any additional comments?

The cover of the book makes the novel seem more spooky than it is. It's really a cozy english comedic mystery which a cast of wacky, wonderful chapters. Not a scary or dark tale in the least.
