Summary

On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library. Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? Perhaps the butler did it.

All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: It wasn't her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers' true identity, she'll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville - the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she's ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn't got a clue.

But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh, so proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit, and melt a woman's knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte's safety is the truth about his dark past.

Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte's feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who's sworn to never love?

Wish there was a different narrator

The narrator sounded bored as hell which is a pity, the story was interesting and different!

Narrator sounds like a robot

This is one of my favourite Tessa Dare books and I was looking forward to listening to it. However, the narrator sounds like a robot. There was no emotion to anything she said, Very disppointed in this performance.

Let down by narrator

This is the final book in the series. It would have been nice if it featured more of the other character.

The main issue is the narrator; she sounds so monotone and bored. This is in sharp contrast to the other narrators in the series.

I do find it a good book to fall asleep to due to the bland narration.

I enjoyed the story although given the series it is a little predictable.

Best Spindle Cove novel in my opinion

Great narration. A beautiful and interesting heroine. A handsome, dashing and mysterious hero. Lots of good incidental characters. It was nice to understand Charlotte’s mother more. And lovely to encounter brother Ralph again. This is my favourite Spindle Cove book.

I’d like more though!

My Favourite Romance. Tessa Dare is Masterful!

I found the stort of Piers and Charlotte to be quite entertaining. One month later, and I still find myself listening to Chapters 7, 11, 16, and more. The story got a bit weird with the fire, but nevermind that. Do enjoy the descriptive narrative and delightful protagonists!

Do you want to start a scandal

Not as good as first three books. I like different voices and lots of laughs.

A pity

I Adore Tessa James books but I think she made a mistake changing her Narrator to Carmen Rose. Her voice is clear and pleasant to listen to but and that's a BIG BUTT she doesn't read with any emotion. She didn't make me believe that this is a love story. when it came to the conversations they were without feeling. The love scenes were cold and didn't make me believe they were in love or desired each other. Totally pasionless. In fact I found my mind drifting and constantly having to rewind. I would have stopped listening but I've read the rest of the series and wanted to know what was happening and to whom. The others books made me want to get to the next book but I haven't that feeling now. I feel cheated in away because I had felt I wanted to know what was instore next. So please Tessa either go back to the previous Narrator or find someone with more emotion and that will leave us wishing that the next in the series is waiting for us.

Another farcical and surreal story.

Why write a tale set in a specific time period, only to have the characters behaving as though they are in the 21st century. When I hear women say, "They would like to go back in time," I assume they are insane or have NO IDEA of the restrictions placed on women at that time. Books like this give them a false idea of what it was like. Even though betrothed, it didn't mean you flaunt it in public. The language and behaviour of both hero and heroine wouldn't have happened. The first book of this series was at least entertaining. It has been downhill since. Blatant and imaginative sex becomes prelevant, with silly excuses, why it shouldn't be happening. The secondary characters and "set pieces" have become more extreme. The screaming kid puts the "icing on the cake." I don't believe English Diplomates were that useless. It's an extremely stupid book, with like characters; at least we are not drowing in a plethora of "Duke."
The narrator has done the best with the material she has. Maybe the previous narrator had had enough.
