Publisher's Summary

Fatherland is set in an alternative world where Hitler has won the Second World War. It is April 1964 and one week before Hitler's 75th birthday. Xavier March, a detective of the Kriminalpolizei, is called out to investigate the discovery of a dead body in a lake near Berlin's most prestigious suburb.
As March discovers the identity of the body, he uncovers signs of a conspiracy that could go to the very top of the German Reich. And, with the Gestapo just one step behind, March, together with an American journalist, is caught up in a race to discover and reveal the truth - a truth that has already killed, a truth that could topple governments, a truth that will change history

Formidable story, gripping and frighteningly realistic

I remember seeing a movie about alternative history, world in which Germany won the war and Hitler triumphed with his sick ideas and philosophy. Great Reich without Poland, Russia, Baltic States and all other Slavic countries. And without Jews.
Now I found a book on which that movie was based. And the story is much more terrifying and only now I realise that movie didn't do it justice.
Germany 1960s. Grey world full of uniformed people, buildings bigger and talked then anywhere else and in their shadows police investigation. One corpse leads to another, and another, and another. An American journalist, an officer of SS, friends, traitors, corruption, betrayal, death. And at the fringes, slowly coming to the front, dug out from the past the terrible truth: what has happened to all the Jews from Europe.
Gripping. And terrifyingly good.
