Summary

When curvy American archaeologist Virginia Jones finds the lost burial mound of an ancient Anglo-Saxon king near the English city of Brighton, she uncovers much more than she expected. Unearthing a priceless artifact summons an evil dragon who'll stop at nothing to claim the treasure for his own hoard. Trapped in a burning building by a beast that ought to be imaginary, Virginia's only hope is to call for emergency....

Dai Drake has an unusual occupation for a dragon shifter - he's a firefighter, part of an elite all-shifter crew. When he rescues Virginia from the blaze, he instantly recognizes her as his one true mate. But how can he tell her what she is, when the first dragon she ever met was a greedy, bloodthirsty monster?

As Virginia and Dai work together to save the artifact from falling into the wrong claws, the spark between them quickly grows to an inferno. But will his secret make their relationship go up in smoke?

Horrific Welsh and Irish accent!

The narrator seemed to believe a sub par glaswegian accent sounds just like a Welsh and Irish one. The premise of the book is a bit weak and I never quite understood why you had shifters from all over the UK and Ireland working in Brighton? Mediocre story and awful narration makes this an instant return.

Oh dear

It’s a shame that the narrator has obviously never heard a Welsh accent. It spoiled the story.

Loved the story. Hated the appalling welsh accent…

Sadly ruined for us brits by the welsh accent that in fact was nothing like a welsh accent. A welsh accent is more of a singsong and drawn out sound soft and lovely to hear. The accent I heard was more like a Scottish highland accent. This threw me all through the book. My welsh friends were appalled. I’d re write and make the dragon have a highland, Scottish heritage. Kim x

Okay, for a quick listen

nothing to really write home about. okay, for a quick read or a distraction whilst cleaning or something. the story was missing something. the humour just was humorous enough. maybe. maybe more for teens.

Not good

Sadly I tried to listen and failed. Very difficult when one person tries to cover all those accents

Enjoyable listen

Had trouble getting into this book at first, had to keep restarting as couldn't keep up. dropped the speed to 80 and bingo, it all came to life 😊 Now looking forward to the other book in the series.

Terrible narrator

Sadly there was nothing I liked about this Audio book. If I could give zero stars, I would. Total waste of money. I bought via Amazon and reviews were good and upgraded to audio. I should have looked at the audio reviews, then I would not have paid for the audio version. Reason being Dai short for Daffydd which is Welsh. Dai was described as having a sultry Welsh accent, where in-fact the narrator gave him an exaggerated Scottish accent. It is clearly obvious the narrator can not distinguish between a Scottish & Welsh accent. I had my doubts about the narrator from the start when she tried to talk with a male aristocratic accent, which she failed at and went totally overboard to the ridiculous. The deal was sealed when Dai spoke!!! Absolutely ruined the story. So much so I couldn’t get past chapter 4. I’m so annoyed as I paid for the next book in the series. I’ve now read the audio reviews on that, which read the same about the narrator. This is such a shame as the story might have been good, I’ll never know unless I read the book rather than listen. Please author if you read this review, in future invest in a narrator who can actually speak in the accent required for the story. I have listened to American narrators in the past with fabulous Welsh accents. My advice is do not waste your money on this series of Audio Books.

oh dear

Well, she tried.
Various UK accents are very difficult and so different.
To have 5 or 6 to try in one book was not going to be easy. Bless her, she did try but, to me, failed abysmally.

I was disappointed as I did enjoy the kindle version and was looking forward to this one.

So sorry but I could not continue past chapter 4. Perhaps this is one of the times when various people should have attempted the story?
