Spoilt by an expletive

?Getting Rid of Matthew? is beautifully read by Adjoa Andoh.
Sadly, what is a well-constructed story is spoiled for me by the excessive, gratuitous use of one four-letter word. Perhaps Jane Fallon feels it gives a modern authenticity to her work, but it really would not have detracted from the entertainment to have substituted something like ?Helen swore? occasionally.
As a very mature reader over the years I have seen various expletives burst into popularity and then fade away and I have used them myself! However, their repetition in print in what is otherwise a good read seems unnecessary and sad. It has put me off buying other Fallon works in future having been drawn to her by the Richard & Judy recommendation and being able to purchase the audio version in an unabridged edition.

Laugh out loud

My only disappointment with this book was that the author has not written any others at this point in time. Much has been said about Helen's langauge in the other reviews - it didn't bother me and I found it quite realistic. If you really don't like modern parlance I recommend Jane Austen. I just wish I had delivered Helen's parting words when I recently left a job. Funny from beginning to end and certainly never boring. I hope to hear more from this author.
