This is a delightful story, in spite of being based on a truly dark time for the poor and unprotected children of the Victorian era. These particular orphans and their teacher manage to turn glittering Society and its dark counterpart on its head.
The teacher, Concordia, is in the mold of the best of Amanda Quick's characters. She is smart, quirky, and cheerfully keeps moving forward no matter how badly things get.
The narrator reads most of her characters with a shrill voice. Nevertheless the listener has no trouble knowing who is speaking.
Even though this book has been in print/audio for a good while, it is still fresh and compelling.

Another great story from Amanda Quick. Very entertaining and witty. I was fast-paced but still you understood the layout of the book.
