Needs More Soul
OK--this is definitely NOT one of my favorite KA books; not even close. The sole reason it rated 3 stars was the creativity of this whole fantasyland series. While this book had its moments, the body of the work was pretty lackluster when compared to the first 4 books in the series. I hesitate to write further as spoilers would be inevitable in order to understand my response. I found 'Frannie' to be a non-compelling heroine for the most part and had not much more investment in Noc. The primary character in this book that resonated with me was Josette (remember I listened, so spelling may be an issue). Josette was a new character specific to this book; the other compelling character is Valentine, who has been a continuing character.
I think I understand KA's intent behind this story and there are quite a few strong moments/conversations. Yet, this book , to me, just does not have the force behind it that the first four have had.
The redeeming performance by Tillie Hooper is another reason for the 3 stars. She's quite magnificent as ALL voices. I am hopeful this is NOT the final book in the series.

still not as good as book 2
It was really entertaining hearing about the characters exploring this world but other than that it was lacking. I've heard the 5 books in the series and the only one i wanted to hear again was book 2, that had a really well taught out story.
