Summary

Penguin presents the unabridged, downloadable audiobook edition of My Sunshine Away by M. O. Walsh, read by Kirby Heybourne.

One day Lindy Simpson cycles home from school and straight into a trap: Someone is lying in wait for her, a wire strung between lampposts across the path. She is raped just yards from her front door. No one sees a thing, and the perpetrator is not caught.

Her 14-year-old neighbour has loved Lindy from afar since they were kids. He begins investigating neighbourhood 'suspects', determined to solve the crime. But before the long, hot summer is out, he will learn that the white picket fences of his hometown conceal a tangled web of darkness. The friendly, open community of Baton Rouge has plenty to hide.

In his zeal to solve the crime, one lonely teenager stumbles deep into a sinister world he doesn't recognize, drawing ever closer to a terrifying denouement.

<br />"The violation of one innocence, darkens the worl

In Baton Rouge on a specific street a group of children play. like all children do, it is 1989 and on a night like any other on this specific street a fifteen year-old girl is raped. The narrator is also a child at this point, and thinks he loves her, but the catalist of the crime turns love into obsession.

A crime story about the long consequences of crime, about how it disassembles lives, of how we survive or try to survive the knowledge, the secrets that everyone carries and tries to forget.

A coming of age book that depicts how beautiful and hard it is to grow up, and how much we miss communicate.

A very well written book full of emotion and feeling that are as palpable as memories, characters that breath and walk that feel and love, An indictment on men and the casual ways and not so casual ways in which we hurt women. A confession from the innocent; of all the guilt and hope he has, that we can do better.

Exceptionally well read and narrated Kirby Heybourne, his voice embodied the characters with ease and clarity.
