After divorcing her never-home husband, Lauren Southall plucked up her courage, dusted off her power suits, and returned to corporate life. Two years later, there's just one six-foot three, testosterone-packed problem: her ex-husband's good friend and her current boss, Noah Reeves. Lauren aches for him. But she can't possibly measure up to the silicone-packed professional cheerleaders he dates. So she hides her desire behind a professional persona and fantasizes.
For 10 years, Noah Reeves has waited to make Lauren his. Once her divorce was final, he tracked down and hired the brilliant, dedicated woman. But when he's with her, it isn't spreadsheets and profit margins on his brain. Problem is, she's never seen him as anything but her ex-husband's pal. Now that she's finally a free woman and with him 40+ hours a week, well...he'd love to persuade her to throw in her nights and weekends. So Noah decides to romance her by day. By night, he becomes a mysterious stranger devoted only to her pleasure...and discovers she's hiding a naughty little secret of her own. This book is an updated reissue of a 2006 release.

GREAT Cover! Rough Story Line At Start-Enjoyed

I have everything that Shayla Black/Shelly Bradley has written that is available on audio. She was one of the 1st authors I found who was pushing 'the norm' with adult/mature theme romances. *I was presented with the opportunity to listen to this book in exchange for my review* I've reviewed a lot of authors since my early days of Shayla Black, so it was an intriguing offer.

This book is consistent with Black/Bradley's other BDSM work.

Big disclaimer here: I have one HUGE hang up with the seduction of the heroine, Lauren.

I'll explain without spoiling. Noah, the hero, is determined to seduce Lauren. However, his method of seduction was very creepy and her willingness to go along was a bit crazy.

Noah decides to sneak into her house wearing a ski mask, wait until she's asleep and handcuffs to the headboard! He doesn't tell her who he is and he demands she have sex with him without a condom. As the listener, we know who he is, of his intentions and that he is a good guy. However, Lauren doesn't know this – she has no idea who he is, only that he is the first, 'sexy' mystery guy to 'show interest' in her since she's divorced! She does not seem to be bothered at all by the fact she is handcuffed to a headboard, with a masked man which in most circumstances would qualify as rape.

Once I accepted the fact that she was good with it, so I should be too, I really enjoyed the book a lot. As I said, classic Shayla Black a.k.a. Shelly Bradley hot, sexy and I may revisit it again – as I do most of her books.

The narration was fantastic. Cindy Harden easily performs the female lead plus she does a killer performance of Noah Reeves as well. Her narration made the characters believable.

Warnings: Mature themes including descriptions of sex and persistent strong language. 18+ listeners only

Thank you for reading my review. I hope it was revealing enough for you to make an educated choice in buying, without giving away too much detail. Please select yes below if you did find my review helpful. Many thanks.

Good, though it requires some suspension of belief

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would definitely make it more believable

What could Shayla Black and Shelley Bradley have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

Make the character less desperate, and the premise more believable

Which character – as performed by Cindy Harden – was your favorite?

Lauren's sister. She was so honest and made the most sense.

Any additional comments?

Naughty Little Secret was a book filled with secrets and heartache. It was a book that, once you suspended belief a bit, was quite interesting and ridiculously sexy.

The Story: This story follows Lauren Southall, a divorcee' who is broken hearted, afraid of love, and completely jaded. She's also inappropriately interested in her boss/ex-husband's friend, Noah Reeves. What she doesn't know is that Noah is inappropriately interested in her too. Two years passes after her divorce, and Noah has a plan to win her heart. Unfortunately, everything doesn't always work out as planned. What ensues is an intense story that's at times frustrating and other times exciting.

The Narration: Cindy Harden was a good narrator. At the beginning, her voice seemed a bit too breathless, but eventually I got used to it and settled in. She did a great job with the narration of the story and made sure we felt the correct emotions. I didn't quite like the male voices she made at times, but I could deal with them. I know from personal experience that I can really only make one male voice, so I felt okay with the few that she made.

The Verdict: I give this one 3 stars. While I thought the story was beyond hot, I just couldn't connect with the characters, and the story itself required a bit too much suspension of belief. I just can't put myself in her position no matter how hard I try. In the beginning, Lauren seems way too desperate for affection from anyone with a male appendage, and at the same time as the story progresses she's too guarded, and seems to make stupid decisions. Beyond that, she had no confidence in herself, no confidence in others, and just basically no confidence at all. Noah's plan to woo her was an idiotic one, and I could see the writing on the wall at first mention of it. In addition, once everything was revealed, it took too much (in my opinion) to wrap things all up. Still, Shayla Black knows how to write a sexy scene, and the story itself wasn't bad. I really enjoyed it despite my misgivings about the characters. I would recommend this one to those who like erotica that requires a significant amount of belief suspension, but that fully involves a taboo fantasy many would never admit to having.
