Narrator

What did you like best about One Night in Italy? What did you like least?

Loved the story and the characters; almost completely spoiled by the narration - mispronounced words and pauses in the wrong place.

What didn’t you like about Geraldine Sharrock’s performance?

Hated the accent and mispronunciation. Really bad performance.

Do you think One Night in Italy needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Probably not as everyone was accounted for by the end.

Any additional comments?

Really good story, just spoiled by the reader.

Good, easy listen.

I enjoyed this story, but there were occasionally some odd pronunciations, accents, and pauses mid sentence from the narrator.

Well written, poorly narrated

Another of Lucy’s feel good, easy reading books. The main characters are all well defined and believable. The main issue I have is with the narration which is good in parts but mostly delivered in a one speed monotone. I could mostly live with the pronunciation of the Italian words that introduce each chapter, other than a couple which I felt obliged to rewind in order to fully appreciate how so far off the mark they were. Having said that, the story line and characters were sufficiently entertaining to keep me going until the end of the book.

The storey teller

I don’t give up easily on a book. But the narrator nearly made me do this. The dull droll of her voice was so irritating at times.
It was a relief to get to the finish.
Won’t be reading anymore from this author and especially read by the same narrator.

Lightweight book - Not well performed

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story is quite interesting and characters good but the performance was patchy particularly the pauses in sentences which often completely changed the meaning of a phrase or passage. I found this quite difficult to ignore and it spoiled my enjoyment of the book. The story itself was entertaining although predictable. I think it would be a good holiday read.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

The ending was as expected but rounded off the plot nicely

How could the performance have been better?

As stated previously, the pauses in sentences were all wrong and changed the meaning of paragraphs. This should have been better edited.

Could you see One Night in Italy being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

Poor Naration

The Narrator missed the intonation in sentences throughout the book, which spoiled the story somewhat.

Disappointing

The various stories woven together in this book were interesting and I’d have felt more involved if most of the characters hadn’t been so lame and irritating.
The narrator was not great - really strange intonation and some words so mispronounced that I had to go back and listen again to work out what she meant.

Poor production and no proofing

The story was fine, as I expect from a Lucy Diamond, but the production was pretty poor. Narrator was ok in terms of character but she mispronounced a lot of English words, I wouldn’t know about the Italian. She stumbles and pauses in weird places and I can’t believe anyone actually proofed the narration before it was finalised as there are so many areas that could have been sorted out with a few quick re-records. The production just felt cheap and that’s not what I expect from a Lucy Diamond audio book.
