This highland adventure was better than the first in this series (His Bonnie Bride). I thought the main characters in this book were more tenacious, likeable, and believable.
The heroine, Ailis, is a very caring spunky young woman who is courageous and strong. The hero, Alexander, is a man who has trust issues with women. He doesn't start out likable but as the book progresses you find out why he is so bitter.
Overall, this book is an emotional, detailed, action packed adventure that is sure to keep your attention. If you enjoy highland stories put this one on your list!

Be prepared to be transported through time to a bygone Scotland of 1375 where Clans are fighting for their land, their food and their very survival. Here we meet our heroine Ailis a beautiful, strong, witty, sassy but sweet Laird's daughter who's just an unwilling pawn in the middle of her Father's and her betrothed's wicked plans for her.
But, as with any good Highland adventure, in gallops our hero Alexander (who's a handsome, very alpha Clan Laird) and inadvertently changes all their well thought out evil plans. Now I warn you, you're not going to like Alexander most of the time but he has his reasons for being so bitter towards women so please give him a chance to tell you why past history with women has made him like that. There are passion filled nights with Ailis but by day he's cold and disagreeable towards her and yet there's a vulnerable side to him fighting to get out.
This breathtaking action-packed story has great imagery, an intense plot, some likeable characters and some nasty ones too as it starts off with family greed and follows with kidnapping, revenge, distrust, lust, passion, sex and regrets. But that's followed by family drama in the form of a wee girl being a Seer, a shocking discovery, betrayal, a trap, a hated heartbreaking promise and a tormented gruelling few months as it's not only the seasons that have changed for Ailis before she can finally be reunited with a very changed Alexander. The disputes ends with the inevitable Clan fighting and some tense heart-wrenching scenes before we get the HEA ending that we all desperately want for them.
Worth a credit? Hannah Howell very rarely disappoints and this is another enjoyable Historical romance that ticked all my boxes - so I think this is a very creditworthy addition to my Library and maybe yours too. This is actually book 3 in the series - Audible has missed out book 2 Highland Wedding but they could easily be stand-alone listens.
