All I can say is that I freaking loved this book! I will not read books that have certain themes or elements to them. I did not know that this was one of those books and I am so glad I did not know because I would have missed out on one of the best books I have read. I was about a third of the way in when I realized it was only Dirks POV. It worked beautifully. I listened to the audio version and it was so raw, emotional and gritty that I was crying for the last 3 hours. I am really looking forward to the second book and hope that not only does it come out on Audible, but that they use the same narrator. He was phenomenal and perfect for this book!

I know I'm going to be in the minority here but I really have to be true to my feelings because I really didn't enjoy the second half of this listen.... it started off well as Nomad Dirk, the cold and ruthless Enforcer/Executioner for the MC, kept crossing paths with a young girl who is constantly in his thoughts.... Saylor. We're told nothing of Saylor so there's lots of unanswered questions and a mystery behind her character. But, over the years as Saylor turned into a woman, Dirk, who is a strict loner and loves it that way, just can't keep away from her.... and then one night Fate serves her up to him and, yet again, he becomes her rescuer.
However, there is a vulnerability between both of them and they're happy to take things slowly and easy, to become friends, enjoying each other's company and there's no need for many words or explanations between them.... just acceptance. Saylor isn't pushy, demanding or bitchy - she's just glad to be with Dirk.... and Dirk knows he's making a mistake but he just can't help himself.
Then the story takes on a deep and depressing turn and I prefer HEA endings to a romance story and not to suffer through very miserable heartache and dark emotional scenes. No spoilers but this did not leave me happy that I'd listened to it nor did it give me that warm fuzzy feeling as I left it. Told from Dirk's POV, rival and inner MC violence and trouble and I thought the narration was great.
Worth a credit? No, not for me, I like escapism, but I do realize that there is strength and a powerful love story within this listen.... sadly though I love a HEA ending.
