a masterpiece, un capolavoro

the text's musicality took my psyche by it's telomeres and waltzed us through one perspective of Portugal in 1938. In my total ignorance I had had no idea where the story would take me. I smelled the Atlantic sea air, felt the urgency of modernity's clashing as it pushed against cultural 'indolence' or maybe incredulity. "... sostiene Pereira... " becomes a refrain, reframe... What an amazing experience.

Great novel clearly read.

Been studying this book (in Italian) in literature group. Decided to give audiobook a go, too - learn as you move, or go to sleep at night. Thought it might be too challenging to follow aurally, so got English language version first, but sample audio persuaded me to go for Italian, too, and it is better. Obviously this isn't because setting is Italian; it's set in Lisbon. The novel itself, however you approach it, is a jewel.
