Summary
Best-selling children's book writer Angelica is amused and flattered at the attention of Jack, the owner of a vineyard in South Africa, whom she meets at a dinner party. With his easy charm and reputation as a ladies' man, Jack makes her feel good about herself - surely it can't do any harm to indulge in a mild email flirtation?

Loved it!
Angelica is a happily married woman, or so she thinks. She has the perfect life, a husband she loves, and two children she adores. She lives in a beautiful house in London, has a fulfilling career as a children's author with enough time left over to do lunch with the girls.
Then Jack, a handsome South African man walks into her life turning her world on its head.
I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook. The story started off a little slow but then drew me in until I was hooked. This was enhanced by the narrator, Jilly Bond, who gave the story life. Every voice in the story was very well portrayed, with much care even given to the minor characters. eg. when Angelica gets together with her girlfriends each and every one of them was given a very distinctive voice and their personalities were brought to life.
Lovely story, and I agree moral undertones. Very enjoyable. Hope this helps:)

The Affair
This was a most enjoyable book to listen to. The reader was excellent. There was also a moral throughout the story.

Umh not what I expected.
Would you listen to The Affair again? Why?
I only just discovered Santa and having read "The French Gardener" I was really looking forward to this but it didn't quite come up to the previous standard. However I'm not letting it put me off and will try another of her books.
What other book might you compare The Affair to, and why?
I felt this book was a little dated and far fetched, and if I'm honest a bit boring and a let down in several places, I can't think of a book to compare it with.
What does Jilly Bond bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
Jilly Bond gives a good performance, and appears to try and bring a little life into the more mundane parts, I like to listen to her and would certainly try to find other books she has narrated.
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes I did laugh in places, and it has its sad parts too. The husband does very little to endear himself to the listener and at times I would liked to have boxed his ears.

Good story and characters
I am not sure why people have left negative reviews?! I loved this book, and found both the characters and plot intriguing from start to finish. Having been to South Africa, it was lovely that parts of it was set there.

A warning to us all….
Angelica is a spoilt, rich b**** with too much time on her hands. She shouldn’t have had the affair and should have stayed faithful to her husband and put her children’s happiness before her own. I found her rich friends equally annoying.
Santa Montefiore is an excellent writer but I didn’t think this was one of her best stories although the way she captures all the emotions a woman tempted into adultery feels was believable.
Jilly Bond’s South African accents were not good and grated on me particularly at the beginning of the story.

Finally....
I finished it didn't enjoy it one little bit, most of the characters were weak and unrealistic, the plot was rubbish and very predictable. The narrator was slightly better than the book but not much better.
