Summary

When I’m offered the chance to leave New York to live in London for three months, I can’t pack my suitcase fast enough. As soon as I touch down, I’m obsessing over red telephone boxes, palaces, and all the black cabs. But my favorite place is the tube. It’s wall-to-wall hot British men in suits.

When I’m offered a temporary job working for a barrister, I say, sign me up. On my first commute into work, it’s a total accident when I lose my balance and fall against the most handsome Brit alive. He’s as charming as James Bond and as suave as Mr. Darcy. I want to lick tea from his hard abs and listen to his accent all night long.

Turns out Mr. Handsome is my new boss. And his attitude isn’t as hot as his gorgeous face, broad shoulders, and tight ass. He’s brooding, short-tempered, and the most arrogant man I’ve ever met.

As we’re fighting, out of nowhere he kisses me. And I’m pretty sure I see fireworks over Big Ben and hear "God Save the Queen". I wasn’t looking for the fairy tale, but I might have found my knight in shining armor. The problem is he lives an ocean away.

A sexy stand-alone romance.

Was nervous at first...

I have to say that this audio book experience was better than I originally thought. I had trepidation about the 'new' (for me) male narrator, but his voice grew on me. The story line was not bad at all. This was the first book in this 'series' that I read only because the plot intrigued me. I had several pressing questions about the female protagonist:
Would she be a strong character? - Surprisingly, yes.
Would she annoy me as the plot unravelled? - Surprisingly, no.

The male protagonist was also equally important:
Would his strength remain present throughout? - Generally, he held his own.
Would he be overshadowed by the female character? - No.

The plot was predictable at times, but that was a good thing. Both characters hold their own, and the story line was enjoyable. I would listen again.

I would recommend this one as the first read - as it worked well as a first read in this series.

I'm going to be reading King of Wall Street next.

Fabulous book and fabulous narration!

Review of story:

OMG! I'm in love with Violet and Alexander! This is one of my favourite books by this author.

"His voice was like creme brulee - silky smooth with a hint of gravel. Yum. I'd lick the bowl if I had a dishful of him."

Violet King lives in the moment. After a disastrous love affair, she flits from job to casual job, and she's nowhere near realising her full potential. When the opportunity to take a break from her current life presents itself, she's on the next plane to London, and on her way to a new temporary job.

"Women rarely caught my attention, but she was not only beautiful. There was something exotic about her, something that made me want to know more."

Alexander Knightley lives and breathes his work. He's a total workaholic with a singular purpose: to be the best at his job. His father's legacy is a shadow of expectation that hangs over him, which is both a curse and something to be proud of. When Violet blows into his life, her beauty and vibrancy has him distracted and questioning what he really wants out of life.

"I wanted to please him. I wanted him to want me."

This novel was so romantic and sexy! Violet and Alexander are complete opposites in so many ways, but so alike in others. I felt such a thrill of excitement from the first moment they met. The tension between them was tangible.

"The girl was dissolving my focus, my control, my defenses."

I loved Violet's breezy, gutsy ways. She's utterly charming and has a heart of gold. Alexander's reputation precedes him as tough, taciturn, and difficult. I loved his dirty thoughts about Violet and how she affects him from their first meeting - the way she has him acting out of character. He demonstrated very clearly how much space she occupied in his mind. In turn, I enjoyed how Alexander also changes Violet and her view of the world, and makes her see herself in a new light.

This was such a FABULOUS book. I completely ADORED it!! Thoroughly, thoroughly recommend it.

Review of audiobook:

The authors absolutely bring this novel to life. This is the first time I've listened to Shane East and I'm in love with his voice! Saskia Maarleveld is hugely talented and always a pleasure to listen to. Both narrators did a brilliant job switching between English and American accents. I found the whole listening experience fluid and pleasurable. A fantastic production.

Another hit

I just love Louise Bays books and they really do get better and better , loved the story of Alex the barrister with a one track mind that’s addicted to his career And the American Violet who’s been dumped on , makes her way to the UK for a three month stint as a admin assistant purely to get his office in order and then to watch it progress into more
Shane East as Alex was a perfect choice epitomises him spot on and of course Saskia and the strong American also nails her performance....great casting is so important and to me they scored 100%

So thanks for another great listen

Well done Louise Bay. I really enjoyed this book. Well written. Although I could have shaken both of them. I really enjoyed it. Thank you from a fellow author.

Opposite personalities find love

Although there's an instant attraction between Violet and Alexander, their strong personalities and his obsession to be the absolute best in the law courts causes quite a bit of friction.
Amazing job of narration by Shane and Saskia as they brought all the characters to life and I highly recommend this audiobook ❤❤❤❤❤❤

Light and refreshing

Good narration, although I giggled a bit at male narrator speaking as the female character.
