Summary

Bea has just lost her husband after 30 years of marriage. To distract herself from grief, she throws herself into her work running the Reservoir Street Kitchen in Sydney's most fashionable district.

But then an email from a café-owner in Edinburgh prompts her to take a trip to Scotland in the depths of winter - a journey of self-discovery into a secret past that she has tried to forget.

Absolutely delightful

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Most definitely.the problems with a teenage Flora are so realistic and Beas talks with her are so wise. Its so warm and cosy its like hugging a cup of hot chocolate.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Christmas Café?

When Bea finds out who Alex is.

Have you listened to any of Federay Holmes’s other performances? How does this one compare?

No but I hope I can find some more books read by her.what a soothing calming voice she has.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not one moment but each talk between Bea and Flora .

Any additional comments?

If Amanda Prowse can write stuff like this she should be a councellor I am sure she could sort out my family's problems if this book is anything to go by.

A but twee for me

Having just discovered Amanda prowse - I was a little bit disappointed with this, it's a nice story but a bit predictable and not as good as "another love" or "my husbands wife". However it was pleasant enough.

rather average

What did you like best about The Christmas Café? What did you like least?

Scottish winter theme

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

expected

Did Federay Holmes do a good job differentiating each of the characters? How?

so so

Could you see The Christmas Café being made into a movie or a TV series? Who would the stars be?

not really. the characters are not complex enough

Any additional comments?

I got an impression that the writer tries to hard to force her point of view on things through main characters... it's a shame

A lovely listen for Christmas.

Another lovely listen from Amanda Prowse, who never fails. Having never listened to other than Amanda having narrated her books previously, I have to admit it took me a while to adjust, but understand that an Australian accent was appropriate. Not my favourite but still very enjoyable.
