Publisher's Summary

Seventy-two-year-old Siri Paiboun is an unlikely candidate for chief coroner in newly communist Laos, but as the only doctor left in the state there's not much choice. When a party leader's wife turns up dead and Vietnamese bodies surface in a nearby lake, all eyes turn to Dr Siri. Faced with an emerging international crisis, Siri will have to enlist old friends, tribal shamans, forensic deduction, and some good old-fashioned sleuthing before he can discover quite what's going on.

What the Critics Say

"Siri's greatest assets are his charm, persistence and dry humour....A refreshing antidote to hi-tech crime busting." (Guardian)
"Cotterill's novels have richer plots than Alexander McCall Smith's African detective stories, but the same comic charm." (Sunday Times)

Brilliant!

What made the experience of listening to The Coroner's Lunch the most enjoyable?

The narration is excellent. All the characters have a clear identity - Nigel Anthony brings real depth to each voice

What did you like best about this story?

The story was very good, and the location was fascinating. I found myself researching the history of Laos to find out more about the communist regime and the people.

Which character – as performed by Nigel Anthony – was your favourite?

I loved Siri, very funny and very clever. Nigel Anthony is an amazing narrator - new favourite.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I actually laughed out loud at the conversations between Siri and Civilai. The friendly bantering back and forth is very amusing

Any additional comments?

I wish there were more than 4 books on audible - any new audiobooks would HAVE to be narrated by Nigel Anthony! The characters are so fixed in my mind now!

a very good listen

loved this never read the books but would now. If you like the Alexander McCall Smith or Boris Akunin detective series I'm sure you'll enjoy Colin Cotterill's creation - he takes you into a whole new world and you feel as if you now know what it was like to live in that time and place; and you'll come to be very fond of Dr Siri and his team. Nigel Anthony's narration is superb too and I hope he will narrate the rest of the series too; do make sure you pick his version.
