Summary

Kit Mason has lived a life of unimaginable pain. An ex-prostitute, she has fled the clutches of an abusive pimp and now finds herself living hand to mouth in a new city, without anyone to help her.

Frances Thornton seems to be living the perfect life. A lawyer from a privileged background, her perfect façade hides the painful secrets that still haunt her.

Brought together by their attempts to conquer their addictions in an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting, the two women strike up an unlikely friendship.

But can they find strength in each other - or will the demons of their past catch up with them?

Beautiful and touching

Being a great fan of the Detective Kim series, I was excited to pick up this book. Though it couldn't be further from that series, it was just as brilliantly written and the story held a nice pace with many twists and layers. I'm an Angela Marsens fan for real!

This was the first book without Kim Stone. However I found this one was just has addictive, they weren't kidding when they said an "emotional roller-coaster" The narrator was very effective .

don't bother!

awful, full of clichés, flat one dimensional characters, saccarin like narration was unbearable in parts. the author used phrases from another of her novels and very similar themes. not worth the money

Compelling

After devouring the Kim Stone series I was keen to try anything else by Angela Marsons and was not disappointed although it is not something I would have picked without the previous connection. I felt one of the players was a bit hard on Kit given the circumstances but otherwise it was a totally compelling story I could stop listening too.

Refreshing and surprisingly inspiring

I found this book in the Crime/thriller section not sure what its doing there. I do not think the cover or title reflect the story. However I found this story surprisingly intriguing and inspiring. The author addresses complex social subjects with sensitivity and insight. I particularly enjoyed the feminist undertones. Most of all I am very impressed that the typical clinched ending was avoided.I found this book genuinely inspiring.

A great book. I couldn’t put it down.

At the beginning I wasn’t sure, as this is not my normal topic of books. However I do like the way This author writes, so I thought I would give it a go. I was NOT disappointed. It kept me engaged and gripped all the way through. Fantastic book.
