Summary

Dottie and Mary forged a friendship over a bag of penny sweets when they were eight years old. They've shared everything together since then. Now, at seventeen, they're both shopgirls working at Woolworths.

As they go out in the world in pursuit of love and happiness and life becomes more complicated, the simplicity of their childhood dissolves. The heady excitement of first love will consume them both, but the pain of unintentional betrayal will test their friendship.

Captured the minds of teenagers.

Takes a while to build characters, but makes them believable so stick with it. A moving story of childhood friends growing up and facing realities of life.

The girls from seaside lane

What a beautiful story, the narrator had a beautiful voice the onlt criticism I have is there were too many pauses between the chapters it didn't flow nicely apart from that I enjoyed this book. Highly recommend

Thought provoking book

Even although just a work of fiction it reminded readers of how some people in real life put others first and are selfless in their caring and giving

A trip sown memory Lane for me

The Story line reminded me of my childhood, and captured beautifully the way things were in the 1960's

1960s innocent love tangle

2 best friends live a happy innocent life. Their coming of age sends shock waves through their relationship.
It is a story of courage through adversity, of staying true to what you believe despite the dreadful unfairness of live.
A charming, fairly light read. Beautiful descriptive passages bring the story to life in a vividly visual way, often through the most mundane of actions.

Great story

I loved this story. Brought back memories of my teenage years in the 60s. The warmth of the friendship, the funny moments and the tears I cried at the end
