Summary

Dan and Gemma have found their dream first home, but the asking price is the stuff of nightmares. The only way they'll ever save for a deposit is by returning, rent free, to Dan's childhood home. Obviously no one wants to move back into a bedroom still adorned with Kylie posters, with a mother whose culinary skills are noted for their spectacular gastrointestinal effects. But it's for only six months. Even they can manage that. Surely.

Easy listen

Not much to like or dislike. An easy listen, quite dull at times then a couple of bits where I laugh out loud. A bit of a waste of my credit.

Tries hard to be liked and occasionally succeeds

I enjoyed the Liverpudlian setting (proving there are young professionals outside London) but this would be a much funnier book if Dan's family were a bit more down to earth and indeed earthier. (I am thinking something like the Royle Family). Instead the couple go to live with Dan's charmingly alcoholic and filthy rich mother who resides in a Hall with his adorable grandmother living in a home in the grounds. You get the picture? Comic events ensue, (in-between splashing around in the family lake), as Dan and Gemma go through the trials and tribulations of buying their dream home and resisting the temptation to take the money from his mother. It all ticks along fairly nicely until it becomes a fairly desperate scramble to tie up all the loose ends and bring the story to a conclusion. The narrators do a decent job but sound a bit bored in parts.
I listened to this while doing some very boring spreadsheet work and overall this was a fairly pleasant and undemanding diversion even though my toes did curl at some of the corny parts.

The love shack

As usual Jane Costello is superb a lovely read. My only criticism is a little swearing so I will no let my grand daughter listen to it as I really don't think there was any need for it.

Great gentle escape

A book to make you laugh out loud with its great use of everyday language. Escapism chick lit at its best.

I hated the narrators. I love this book.

I love this book, and previously reviewed on good reads but the narrators were awful. I loved Emma Gregory in Girl on the Run, but here southern accent here seemed so fake.

Light hearted story. Wasn't wowed by the narrator and it got a bit slow towards the end.
