Summary

As dawn breaks over the Pont Neuf, and the cobbled alleyways of Paris come to life, Anna Trent is already awake and at work; mixing and stirring the finest, smoothest, richest chocolate; made entirely by hand, it is sold to the grandes dames of Paris.

It's a huge shift from the chocolate factory she worked in at home in the north of England. But when an accident changed everything, Anna was thrown back in touch with her French teacher, Claire, who offered her the chance of a lifetime - to work in Paris with her former sweetheart, Thierry, a master chocolatier. With old wounds about to be uncovered and healed, Anna is set to discover more about real chocolate - and herself - than she ever dreamed.

Oh dear yet more recipes…

Meet Me At The Cupcake Café was a sweet heart warming story with believable characters so I initially I did not mind all the interspaced recipes. Christmas At the Cupcake was disappointing & didn’t really take the characters on & the recipes became annoying. This latest offering The Loveliest Chocolate Shop seems to have been written just for the sake of interjecting recipes & the story was so disjointed it took me several weeks of *going back to it* to finish. If I want to listen to a ‘Cookbook’ I will buy a Cookbook not a novel. Before purchasing the next Jenny Colgan offering I will scan through a hard copy first to check it does not contain recipes! Very disappointing & awarded 1 star as there is not a facility to award nil stars.

Awful !

Terrible book. I was going to stop reading Jenny's books after her last slow, dull one with predictable story lines. But I thought I would give this one a try. But it was full of illness and death ! The whole dull story was pervaded with it.

The blurb is full of chocolate and romance and businesses etc but the reality is morose and dull and hardly any story. I read books to escape death and illness in real life and don't want to have to keep reading about it - which seems to be the current trend for books of this genre.

I've had enough now and won't read any more of Jenny's books.

Made me hungry...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would recommend this book for an easy uncomplicated read, when you just want to lose yourself in chocolate and humour.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the story, as you immersed yourself in Paris, the vivid descriptions, culture, imagining how the food tastes, the smells, the sense of style, the romanticism of Paris an adoring Parisian fantasy. It made me feel like I was walking the cobbled streets.

Which character – as performed by Penelope Rawlins – was your favourite?

Anna Trent the central character was entertaining, and you can identify and sympathise with her easily.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I laughed with Anna and Laurant cried for Claire and Thierry, it was a bitter sweet romance novel.

Any additional comments?

I have just discovered Jenny Colgan, this is the 2nd book I've read after Meet me at the Cupcake Cafe, and looking forward to listening to more.

Ruined by the performance

The story is very good. The reader is also very good - up to a point. She cannot do a male French accent and that spoils the performance. A male actor speaking the male parts would be an infinite improvement. If I wanted to use my imagination I would have read the book. I've opted to listen to it and I expect a professional performance.

Hard going

I found this story quite depressing which is a shame as I usually enjoy this author. The main character annoyed mel The romantic hero was wet. The character I did like …….. Hmmm will not spoil by sayingl
