He Couldn’t Refuse
John Parker-Roth cannot believe that marriage is necessary for his happiness. He would far rather pursue his interest in horticulture, but if one day he should find a female who shared his passion for flowers - a level-headed, calm sort of female - he might reconsider. Certainly the lovely young woman who has just tumbled into his lap will not do, as she possesses neither of those admirable qualities. Yet Miss Margaret Peterson does have many things in her favor.
To begin with, she is a true English rose, blushing a delectable pink. And she is not entirely clothed. Her full mouth begs to be kissed. If only she would not wriggle so…oh, dear. He cannot ignore the sudden vision of her in his bed, but he must. What? Is Meg actually asking him to kiss her? Well, well, well. John Parker-Roth is a gentleman, first and foremost. And he cannot turn down a lady’s request…

What did you love best about The Naked Gentleman?

This is a novel that does not take itself too seriously. How refreshing! Thought the storyline and the characters were great fun and the inherent eccentricity and tongue-in-cheek qualities of the plot and its people were perfectly captured and very well represented by the reader. To me, it's the mark of a good narrator to be able to create so many different voices in the same novel and make each one real, unique and believable with the character's foibles and faults clear to the listener. This audiobook does that! Hats off to the author for a fun story and for choosing this narrator.

What other book might you compare The Naked Gentleman to and why?

Looking forward to hearing Sally Mackenzie's other books in this series.

Have you listened to any of Rosalind Ashford’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes. I've bought several audiobooks just because she was the narrator. She does a great job of making very different characters in a range of books both believable and unique.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laughed. A lot.

Any additional comments?

Well worth listening to.

Wonderful Story, Narration is not so great.

Would you try another book from Sally Mackenzie and/or Rosalind Ashford?

Yes, she is a wonderful author & makes me giggle.

How could the performance have been better?

The Narrator gave the character of Emma an annoying lisp. This character did not have this lisp in the "Naked Marquis" which is the story of Emma & Charles. I don't know why this narrator felt the need to do this, for me it distracted me from the story every time Emma had a line.
