The returning tide
I enjoyed this book as it covered the past and the present so well in the story line. All through the story I had a thought that there was a twist on the story to come I wasn't that surprised but it made a good ending. Well worth listening to

Predictable
Sadly very predictable, quite pleasant but not something that kept me hanging on. Also got very frustrated by the narrators inability to pronounce Mawnan Smith correctly. Why don't they check these things first?!

Wonderful
I really enjoyed listening to The Returning Tide by Liz Fenwick . It was a lovely story and brilliantly read by Anne Dover as usual. The way the two different years were linked was so good and was quite sad in places. How I remember staying in the exact area of Falmouth the story was written about - it brought back so many memories - thank you!

Predictable
I enjoyed this as a gentle yarn, but it lacked depth. I found I was stopping at time changes to remember who was who. The characters never built enough depth to know or relate to them but despite that I enjoyed it on a superficial level. It made nice light listening

Captivating
Another truly captivating story of romance and betrayal. Set in wartime/present Mawnan Smith, Cornwall. Liz has struck the perfect blend of past and present as she entwines back and forth the story of twins Adele and Amelia.

Predictable & depressing. A shame.
As the story is very sad (depressingly so) it is frustrating that you know from very early on what happened in the past as its like having an incredibly slow walk to your death, the feeling of despair is really strung out for ages. While I have no problem with books flicking back and forth in time normally, for that reason it was a very poor choice for this book. Either that needed changing or I’d have tweaked the story’s end (or start in this case) as I do believe there were several better options for the characters even in those times and within the context which is set. I continually found myself desperate for the story to return to 2015 where there was some light in the story but it mainly set in 1943-45. Someone else commented that the older narrator added to the gloom by reading the story in a way that very clearly indicated an elderly lady wanting to die. This may be the case, but I think the author is probably more at fault. I have enjoyed all of the author’s other books so I was very disappointed by this. On the plus side the information about the Second World War was excellent and sparked me to do more research.

Took a while to get going, not bad story
This is the 2nd book I have listened to by Liz Fenwick and I feel that she writes her books for film. There is so much build up and unnecessary detail, great for a film perhaps, but not a book or audio book. I think the main point of the story could have been achieved much quicker. I had to persevere for it to develop and grab my interest. That said, it was a decent storyline, albeit a little predictable.

Very dissatisfied
I found the narrators voice even though she is indeed an old lady almost depressing being that she is obviously going to die.
I found the jumping from years distracting, and I still have no idea who is who through the years, the grandparents seem to have lived extraordinary long lives and the main characters, the twins I have little idea what haptics her illegitimate child
