Summary

*Winner of the 2018 Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director*

Now a major motion picture from Fox Searchlight

Visionary storyteller Guillermo del Toro and celebrated author Daniel Kraus combine their estimable talent in this haunting, heartbreaking audiobook.

The Shape of Water is set in Cold War-era Baltimore at the Occam Aerospace Research Center, which has recently received its most sensitive asset ever: an amphibious man captured in the Amazon. What unfolds is a stirring romance between the asset and one of the janitors on staff, a mute woman who uses sign language to communicate with the creature.

Developed from the ground up as a bold two-tiered release - one story interpreted by two artists in the independent mediums of literature and film - The Shape of Water weaves together fantasy, horror, and romance to create a tale that is equally gripping on the big screen and as an audio performance.

Prepare for an experience unlike anything you've ever heard or seen.

The Shape of water

This was a beautiful journey, I utterly adore this book. I enjoyed watching the movie, however it doesn't live up to the book, not even a little. I love the characters, their development and the both small and large interventions the characters share. I really enjoyed the story flow, and seeing Zelda be the most amazing fríend, and being able to view the Amphibian mans perspective too. I enjoyed Elaine's story and her leaving Strickland, I even enjoyed his story and getting a deeper in signs into his utterly messed up psyche. The narrator is fantastic and none of the characters blend together, she did a very good job of telling this story.

Absolutely beautiful! Best audio book so far!

If you loved the movie, you will love this book. I love the way the narrator changes her voice for each chapter so that you immediately know whose point of view you will be hearing from. As great as the movie is, only the book will give you an understanding of all of the characters in this story, and you will be surprised to hear so much from some of the characters!

absolutely beautiful

I loved this story so much. I laughed, I cried. The book has so much more feeling than the film, even though I loved the film. The narration was brilliant 👏

Beautifully written and narrated

Beautifully written and narrated. - poetic. Strong characters woven into such an original concept. This also transferred beautifully to the big screen.

brilliant story and fantastic narrator

The story was fantastic, I loved the in depth description which was so immersive, but what really made this audio book was the narrator. She emphasised everything brilliantly and really brought the story to life. I will definitely be looking out for both this author and narrator in the future.

Moving

When I saw that the audio version was 13 hours and the film was 2 hours , I thought great, we’ll get to know the characters better, and we do!

Reader, I loved it! At first it was a bit halting, but that could be because I knew what was to come and I was impatient to get to the heart of the story. The story was movingly read and of course the characters were better drawn, more deep. Especially Elisa, who is mute ... so in the book you get more of her thoughts, which you can only interpret in the film. And also you also hear the thoughts of the amphibian himself ... his speech pattern was a creation and I thought it was perfect.

I thought the story about Elaine which we don’t see in the film at all was good and a good addition.

The last chapters were ones you don’t want to end.

I’m glad I saw the film, because I could see the amphibian man as he was so beautifully portrayed in the film. I see there’s a pdf attachment to the audio book which shows him too, but still the film and book go together well.

Mesmerising Story!

Wasn’t quite sure about this one at the very beginning, but the skilled narration soon brought the entire tale to life, depicting every character in the first person with a unique voice. So glad I listened to this before seeing the movie - highly recommended!
