Better analysis of coercive control than The Archers!

Everyone said the BBC had done a great job with the Rob/Helen story - but this was much better and deeper. But also funny - really witty and fantastic style. I laughed but was deeply moved. Couldn't stop listening. Great story. Thank you.

I loved this book!

I bought this audio book as an impulse buy to listen to on a six-hour drive in my car (courtesy of attaching my phone through the aux cable). I was mildly interested during the first chapter, but that emotion quickly changed to enraptured. The author has an incredibly satisfying attention to detail when describing her characters' quirks, mannerisms, memories etc etc. The homage paid to working class life and joys through reminiscences of Maggie's mum's flat were fabulously familiar to someone who grew up with all my relatives being from a similar background.
All of the characters, despite being incredibly unique, were believable and impossible not to empathise with (except one who deserves no empathy, But I won't spoil who that is). I am usually very good at predicting twists and turns in books, but this definitely had some complete OMG moments that had me open-mouthed at the wheel on the M6 North. I don't think this novel could ever be called predictable :)
I will definitely be reading more by Kerry Fisher now! And I hope that Emma S-H narrates more books, because she is fabulous!
