The immensely popular
Sunday Times’ best-selling author Adele Parks is back with her latest release audiobook,
The State We’re In, charmingly narrated by the equally as popular Antonia Beamish. This is a delightful and moving story of two strangers sitting next to each other on a plane who both gain life-changing wisdom from each other as they travel across the Atlantic. This story reminds us of the fateful strangers who pop onto our path, often for the briefest of moments but who ultimately change the course of our lives forever. This story is the perfect holiday listen.
"Wonderfully plotted, moving and insightful...this is Parks’ best yet…shot through with funny, tender and observant moments." (
"She is a particularly acute observer of relationship ups and downs, and her stories are always as insightful as they are entertaining." ( Daily Mirror)

Not really,to be fair this is not my usual genre. I went off on a whim and chose this as it was an audible recommended read. I do not recommend it particularly. I didn't really care for most of the characters, it was very cliched towards the end, and made a lot of the classic mistakes you are always told not to do when story-writing. Also, the style of narration was a bit annoying. Short sentences and that annoying inflection at the end of each sentence, like it was a question! Particularly with Joanna's character.
