Seranne Laurence is furious when her mother announces she is to marry the latest in a long line of unsuitable men-friends. She soon realises that she hasn't the right to interfere in her mother's life, but that means she must leave the tea rooms she and her mother run together. Filled with resentment towards her stepfather, Seranne moves to the small Welsh village of Cwm Derw. There she finds many new friends, including Betty and Alun at the Ship and Compass, and Babs and Tony at the bakery. Then there is Luke, who laughs at her misfortunes and whose friendship she accepts. It is a friendship she comes to value highly when he risks his own life to rescue her.

Not complimentary!

I did listen to it all even though I was bored by the story and annoyed by most of the characters. Eventually after many twists and turns (mostly of the heroine's own making) it did end in the way one would expect it too.

Time to move on

Anne Cater does her usual amazing job with this lovely book. A very interesting tale about a Welsh village and the central figure is entertaining and complex. Anne Cater is Welsh and her ability to do accents and perform the roles is brilliant. I could not wait to listen to the whole book right through. Ten out of ten.
