Summary

Childhood sweethearts Leah Starr and Johnny Whitehorse had nothing in common. She was a senator's daughter. He was the grandson of an Apache medicine man and the local "bad boy". But their passion made the rest of the world seem unimportant, until a cruel deception forced them apart. Years later, Leah has returned to her hometown, burdened with memories, familiar with struggle and hard work, but when she sees Johnny again, her strength is tested. Now one of the most powerful men in the country, Johnny has also returned home. His mission is to bring Leah's power-hungry father down in the dust. When their love becomes too strong to ignore, both must make the ultimate choice, between the obligations of duty, and of the heart.

enjoyable story

This was well narrated. The various characters' voices were distinct in a natural way.
The main characters were well drawn, although I did feel the subsidiary ones were difficult to visualise.
The story moved along well, but some elements were raised then didn't seem to be developed, for example Leah becomes a vet at the race course, but my impression was she only worked there about a week.
Not a deep story, but a satisfying listen

Undemanding listen.

Very predictable, but enjoyable enough.

Have to listen again

What a great listen. I loved the characters, the plot and everything about the book.
Of the over 800 books in my database that I have read only 5 of them are rated 5 star, 3 of them are by Katherine Sutcliffe.

Loved Listening.

I bought this on the recommendation of other readers on audible site. Never read a book by this author before. When it ended I wished it would just go on and on! Reader read it very well. I would listen at night and go on for longer than I intended. Great bedtime story.
